I loved the tour. Prince showed me so much about the country of Ghana. The tour was filled with good educational viewpoints. This is a experience that will never be forgotten. This was the best tour to take. Prince knows the inns and out about the country since he is from here. So many highlights. Just wonderful all around. Will recommend this tour to everyone once I get back home. Out of 10 stars i give it an exceptional 100. Thanks so much tourradar and olive travels for putting this tour together. Can't wait to bring back family on the tour next time. Much love from shannon!

Just being in Ghana alone was amazing. The people are hospitable and gracious. Our tour leader, Prince Hart, was par excellence. He’s quite knowledgeable about Ghana, the people, the history and the politics. He is a wealth of information. Prince was also accommodating, staying with us till late at night. He took us to lunch, dinner, shopping, errands. I think he we above the call of duty. Picked us up from the airport and delivered us back when it was time to depart.

Best tour companies for Ghana tours
ProTour Africa and Continent Tours stand out as the top choices for Ghana tours, based on what our travelers tell us. ProTour's guides Zainab and Rashida really shine - they know their history inside out and share genuine stories about local life, markets, traditions and also customs. You'll notice the difference in how they handle everything, from market visits to village stays. For those looking to trace their roots, Continent Tours has built quite a reputation. Tour manager Tina Ross takes time to craft routes that connect with your family history, while guide Matina Kuma brings real depth to each stop with her local connections and cultural knowledge. They're particularly good at arranging meaningful encounters in communities where your ancestors may have lived. Both companies handle the practical details well - transportation runs smoothly, accommodations are properly vetted and the pacing works for most travelers. What sets them apart is how they weave Ghana's story into every day of your trip, from the colonial history in Cape Coast to modern life in Accra and also the traditions in northern villages. Our travelers often mention how these aren't just standard sightseeing tours - you'll sit with local families, learn to cook traditional dishes, visit markets with the guides who know all the vendors and understand the deeper context of places you visit.
Best places to start your Ghana tour
Most people kick off their Ghana journey from Accra - about 47 out of 52 travelers start there. While you can begin from Cotonou, Tamale, Cape Coast and also Dakar, these aren't as common. Looking at our booking patterns, you'll want to lock in your spot around 85 days ahead, especially if you're hoping to travel with well-known guides like Zainab or Rashida who lead many popular trips. Two weeks seems to be the magic number for really getting to know Ghana properly, from Accra's buzzing markets to quiet coastal spots. It's interesting to see how many of our travelers prefer staying in local guesthouses rather than standard hotels - they say it helps them connect better with communities and get more out of the cultural experience.

- Winter 2025 / 2026
Winter in Ghana works particularly well for travel, and we've designed several popular tours around the cooler months. The Artisanal Tour connects you directly with local craftspeople - you'll work alongside them learning traditional pottery, making black soap and creating batik fabric patterns. Nature lovers tend to pick our extended Cultural Experience tour with its hikes to Wli Waterfalls and Mount Afadja when temperatures are just right. The cooler weather makes it perfect for walking Kakum National Park's rainforest canopy and exploring the Ashanti craft villages. Our guests often mention how much they enjoy the balance of active morning activities followed by laid-back afternoons at spots like the Aburi Botanical Gardens.

- Spring 2026
Spring offers ideal conditions to explore northern Ghana. At Mole National Park, you can join safari tours to spot elephants, warthogs and also antelopes both on walking trails and vehicle routes while temperatures stay moderate. The Artisanal Tour sees lots of bookings since spring weather suits outdoor workshops beautifully - our guests frequently tell us how enjoyable it is to learn traditional crafts in the open air this time of year. Mountain trails in the Volta Region really shine now, with clear visibility from Mount Gemi and pleasant hiking weather for reaching Wli Waterfalls. The craft villages of Sirigu are especially active in spring, where you'll find artisans at peak production making pottery and also weaving baskets.

- Summer 2026
Summer tours blend cultural visits with water activities nicely. You can catch cool breezes on Lake Volta boat trips while visiting traditional island communities. Many travelers choose our Adventure and Culture Experience, combining visits to multiple waterfalls with cultural stops - those water features really help on warmer days. The early morning safari walks in Mole National Park paired with afternoon visits to Larabanga's ancient mosque work especially well for our guests. Craft village tours keep running, though most visitors prefer morning workshops before the day heats up.

How do people usually get around Ghana and what are my transport options?
Getting around Ghana is actually pretty flexible and there's something for every budget. You'll see these colorful minibuses called "tro tros" everywhere they're super affordable and perfect for short trips around cities running pretty much all day. If you're heading between regions the intercity buses are really comfortable and they've got overnight options too. Need to save time? Domestic flights connect the major cities like Accra to Tamale takes just an hour and that's perfect if you're joining something like the 7-Day Northern Ghana Tour. When you're in the cities taxis are everywhere and they'll take you right to your door.
What kinds of cultural experiences can I have in Ghana?
You'll find amazing cultural experiences all over Ghana honestly there's so much to dive into. Head to Bonwire to learn traditional Kente weaving right where it all started or check out Ntonso village where they create these beautiful Adinkra cloths with all these meaningful patterns. Want something really special? Time your visit with festivals like Homowo in Accra or Damba up north they're absolutely incredible. Lots of tours like the 12-Day Best of Ghana by Continent Tours actually let you take part in traditional naming ceremonies which is such a unique way to connect with local customs.
What natural areas can I visit outside the cities and how do I get there?
Ghana's got some incredible national parks and natural spots you've got to see. Kakum National Park isn't far from Cape Coast and wow that canopy walkway through the rainforest is something else built back in 1994 by a team of Canadians and Ghanaians it's actually featured in the Thrills in Ghana tour. Love wildlife? Mole National Park's your spot grab a flight to Tamale or take the road you'll see elephants antelopes all sorts. The Wli Waterfalls in the Volta Region that's West Africa's highest waterfall with some great hiking trails. The 10-Day Ghana Adventure and Culture Experience combines both Wli Falls and Mount Afadja hikes if you want the full package.
Which lesser-known places should I check out in Ghana?
Looking for something off the beaten path? Tongo's really special with its sacred shrine and these amazing rock formations it's part of the 7-Day Northern Ghana Tour and gives you a real taste of Northern Ghana's culture. Sognaayilli culture village near Mole National Park lets you experience local life without the tourist crowds. There's also Pikworo Village near Paga it's got this powerful history as a former slave trading outpost. These places might not be in all the guidebooks but they're absolutely worth visiting if you want to understand Ghana's culture and history on a deeper level.
