- Days 1-2
Reykjavik & Departure
Start your journey in Reykjavik where you can explore the downtown area on foot. Take the FlyBus from Keflavik Airport - it's a 45-minute ride and much cheaper than taxis. The next day you'll catch your charter flight to Kangerlussuaq Greenland to board your expedition ship. Remember to pack warm clothes as Reykjavik summer evenings can get quite cool at 45°F/7°C.
- Days 3-4
West Greenland Coast
Visit Maniitsoq and Sisimiut with their stunning fjords and mountains. The 47-mile Eternity Fjord is incredible - bring extra camera batteries since cold weather drains them quickly. Stop by the bright blue Bethel Church in Sisimiut and see local kayak-making demonstrations. In Ilulissat you'll get your first look at massive icebergs at the UNESCO Icefjord. You'll need waterproof pants and solid boots for Zodiac trips since the water spray gets cold.
- Days 5-7
Davis Strait & Nunavut
The journey continues across Davis Strait to the Canadian Arctic. You can learn about Arctic wildlife and geology during onboard talks while at sea. Your stop in Pangnirtung Nunavut offers authentic Inuit culture experiences. Bring cash for the excellent textile art since ATMs are limited. At Cape Mercy you can explore an old Cold War radar station and take guided coastal hikes.
- Days 8-10
Torngat Mountains & Nunatsiavut
Spend two full days in Torngat Mountains National Park which has Canada's highest peaks east of the Rockies. Look out for caribou black bears and Arctic foxes. Good hiking boots are essential for the challenging terrain. A recent visitor shared: "The Zodiac rides were chilly but seeing polar bears on the shoreline made it worthwhile. The expedition team really knew where to look." Visit the modern Illusuak Cultural Centre and historic Moravian Mission in Nain Nunatsiavut's capital. Try to sample local arctic char if available.
- Days 11-12
Sea Day & Viking History
- Days 13-14
Final Sea Day & St. John's
Spend your last sea day enjoying final lectures and wildlife watching from deck. The ship arrives early in St. John's Newfoundland. If time allows before your flight explore the colorful houses on Water Street. The airport is close just 15 minutes from the harbor. Book afternoon flights to avoid common morning fog delays.
- Day 1
Reykjavik, Iceland
- Days 2-3
Westfjords Region
Board the Ultramarine ship and spend two days exploring Iceland's northwestern peninsula. The landscapes here are incredible, formed over 16 million years. Take Zodiac trips to Vigur Island in Ísafjarðardjúp fjord, where you can spot nesting puffins and eider ducks. Stop at Ísafjörður to see its historic wooden buildings.
- Day 4
Denmark Strait Crossing
- Days 5-6
Northeast Greenland National Park
Discover the world's largest national park by ship and Zodiac. Take a hike through Skipperdal Valley, but make sure to wear good boots for the uneven ground. Visit Blomsterbugten on Ymer Island and see the Varghytten hut used by Danish patrols. The crew will be finding the perfect spot for eclipse viewing.
- Day 7
Total Solar Eclipse
- Days 8-11
Scoresby Sound
- Day 12
Return Crossing
- Day 13
Disembarkation in Reykjavik
- Days 1-2
Reykjavik
Land at Keflavik Airport and take the 40-minute Flybus to Reykjavik. Book it ahead online to save money compared to taxis. The bus runs every 30 minutes. Your first day is perfect for walking around downtown Reykjavik. Start at Hallgrímskirkja church in the morning before the crowds show up then walk down Laugavegur Street to check out local shops. Use your second day to see more of the city in the morning before getting on your ship in the afternoon.
- Day 3
Snaefellsnes Peninsula
People call this area "Iceland in miniature" because you get to see so many different landscapes in one day. Get to Kirkjufell mountain early for the best morning photos. Visit the fishing villages of Arnarstapi and Grundarfjörður where you can try hákarl (fermented shark) at Bjarnarhöfn Shark Museum. Take an easy hike through lava fields on the coastal path near Arnarstapi.
- Days 4-6
The Westfjords
You'll need three full days to see this remote northwestern region with its dramatic fjords and cliffs. Go to Látrabjarg cliffs early in the morning to see puffins when they're most active. Bring a good camera with a zoom lens. Visit the Heritage Museum at Hnjótur and take some guided hikes in the wilderness. Pack waterproof clothes and sturdy hiking boots as the weather changes quickly here.
- Days 7-8
Northern Iceland
Take the Diamond Circle route to see Dettifoss, Europe's most powerful waterfall. Get there before 10 AM to avoid the crowds. Visit the geothermal area of Hverir but wear old shoes because the sulfur smell sticks. Make time for Grímsey Island, Iceland's only spot in the Arctic Circle. One visitor said: "The midnight sun at Grímsey was surreal—pack an eye mask for sleep as it stays light almost 24 hours in summer."
- Days 9-10
East Iceland
The eastern fjords show off Iceland's most impressive mountain views. Go glacier hiking in Vatnajökull National Park (book your guides ahead) and visit Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Visit Diamond Beach at sunrise or sunset when it's less crowded. If weather permits take a scenic flight over the glaciers.
- Day 11
Westman Islands
Visit the puffin colonies at Stórhöfði on Heimaey Island between June and August for the best viewing. Stop by the beluga sanctuary and learn about the volcanic eruption that almost destroyed the town in 1973. Take motion sickness medicine for the boat ride if you need it the waters can get rough.
- Day 12
Return to Reykjavik
Back to the capital for your final day. If you're staying extra nights pick a hotel in the harbor area for easy access to both the city center and transport.
