- Vickie· March 29th, 2025Everything that was promised.Show moreGJ Travel commented on this reviewThank you so much for this review. We are delighted to hear that you were happy with the tour! We hope to see you again in Iceland some day. All the best from Iceland, Team GJ TravelTrip date: March 2025
- Eleanor· January 26th, 2025My Iceland experience through GJ Travel was purely sublime. The itinerary was excellent and Andres, our guide, was informative. Iceland truly deserves the reputation of being the Land of Fire and Ice. I encountered the ice first hand and saw the effects of the fire part throughout the places we have visited. Seeing waterfalls, lava caves, ice caves, lava fields and volcanoes make up for a truly remarkable Icelandic experience. The Icelandic people I have met were all lovely. They speak English fluently. The passport control officer even wished me a happy birthday. Andres, our guide, educated us of every volcano, mountain, lava field, lakes, shores and beaches, waterfalls, practically on everything that we passed by. He regaled us of stories of the Yule lads and trolls, of elves, of the Vikings, of sagas and folk lores, and of Iceland’s rich literature. He must have been a teacher in another life (I did hear him mention, “my students”.) He tried to manage our expectations about seeing the Northern Lights (the weather forecast was not cooperating) and I believe he was as happy as us when the magical and mesmerizing Northern Lights appeared. It seemed that he made it his personal mission for us to see the lights and I seem to have seen the pressure being lifted from his shoulder when we did. Thank you Andres for all the information. I have to read up on it now to retain it. 😊 The hotel staff were wonderful. Wake up calls were scheduled when the lights appeared. The guides for the lava and ice caves were both informative and delightful. The accommodations provided a warmth atmosphere in the cold and remote locations the tour brought us to. The only service that I did not find too satisfactory was the FlyBus. Although information was provided by GJ Travel ahead of time, the experience could have been better. It is a series of two buses; one that brings you to the bus station after which you transfer to a smaller bus to take you to your destination identified by colour zones. On my arrival, the second driver did not come to the waiting area nor announce her colour zone. I nearly missed her. It was a good thing I saw a red sign she was holding that I went to ask. On my departure, the driver that took us to the airport did not assist passengers with their luggage. Each passenger literally crawled in the underbelly of the bus to retrieve his/her suitcase/s. Is Iceland expensive? Yes! A 2.5 kilometre taxi ride was $30.00. Dining is prohibitive but the other choice is to starve. It is what it is. I always try local dishes when I travel and I have mentally prepared for this. A single dish costs at least $50.00. The menu is also limited. It is either lamb, fish or burgers. (Burgers are $50.00. No wonder MacDonald’s did not survive). I tried lamb (3x) and it was delicious. It was a breath of fresh air when I saw chicken and pasta as choices on one hotel. The server recommended the pasta and it was good. For lunches, there are not much in terms of choices in remote locations, so, we either went to a cafe or grocery stores. Sandwiches in grocery stores were a lot more reasonable price wise. I tried the ham, Brie and cranberry sandwich and it was delicious. The hiccups were minor and did not in anyway dampen my Icelandic experience. I have already started researching to go back and see the midnight sun.Show moreGJ Travel commented on this reviewThank you so much for this review. - MBMaría· October 24th, 2024Excellent agency GJ Travel. The impeccable hotels and the best of all was the local guide. All within the times and very organized. However, I consider it important to take into account if there are people who do not speak English, to have the option of some team that allows translation or explanation in the person's language. In my case, I traveled with my mom who doesn't speak English and it was complicated for her. And give more time at the souvenir shop stop. Otherwise, everything is fabulous. I recommend it, with the guide Margaret, an incredible womanShow moreGJ Travel commented on this reviewThank you so much for this review. We are delighted to hear that you were happy with the tour! - PCPETER· October 9th, 2024Our Northern Lights Tour was excellent. Our guide/driver was helpful and knowledgeable and went out of his way to add interest to the tour. For instance we saw local farmers and their families mustering and sorting sheep. This was totally unexpected and would not have happened without his local knowledge. We were fortunate to only have a small group on our tour and this gave our guide more flexibility. We saw the Northern Lights on three occasions in spite of the cloudy weather at the start of the tour. The tour program was well rounded with a good blend of waterfalls, glaciers, churches and beaches etc. We never felt waterfalled out or if we see one more glacier.Show moreTrip date: September 2024

Asked on July 1st, 2025Is it possible to book pre-night accommodation at the Silica Hotel at Blue Lagoon?

Asked on May 20th, 2025Is it possible to check tour availability? Do all hotel rooms have washrooms with shower stall? Can I share a room with my same sex friend? Is February 20-27 the best time to see aurora borealis or is January better? What is the payment plan? What is the cancellation policy?
- GJ TravelOperator•Written May 2025
All hotels have private bathrooms with a shower. You can share a room with a friend by booking a Twin room. February and January are similar for Aurora sights - 95% chance in January and 89% in February. Deposit is required upon booking, with final payment a few weeks before departure. Cancellation fees: 20% if 6-8 weeks before tour, 50% if 4-6 weeks before, no refund less than 4 weeks before or for no shows.

Asked on May 6th, 2025What is the best time to go. We're retired and very flexible with time. Are there discounted last minute deals?
- GJ TravelOperator•Written May 2025
We do not offer discounted last minute deals but if you are looking for the most budget friendly departure, they cost less from November until April (simply because the accommodation is cheaper these months during low season). The chances of seeing the Northern Lights on this tour is 90%, calculated from our experience on the tour. The difference between each month is small and the lowest rate is 83% in October, which is still very high and highest rate is in December and April with 100% success rate.

Asked on March 10th, 2025Do you have a little more detail Itinerary? I see foods are very expensive. Is there microwave or hot water pot in any of hotels? Do you know any Simultaneous translation app which we can use during the trip?
- GJ TravelOperator•Written March 2025
Foods and meals in Iceland do cost a bit, lunch stops are made at small road-side restaurants, petrol stations diners or café-shops. For lunches calculate from ISK 1,500 up (about EUR 11) depending on what you are planning to eat. Warm soups and meals start from ISK 3,000 (about EUR 22) up and cost up to ISK 8,000 (EUR 57). Hotels on the countryside offer limited a la carte menus with a selection of fish, meat and vegetarian options as main course. Meals can be paid in ISK or by Credit Card. If any special diet is requested, please let us know in advance and reconfirm it with your tour guide on the first day of tour. The hotels do not have microwaves in the rooms or hot water pots but most of them have kettles. Unfortunately I am not familiar with any translation app that works for dialogue, I wish I did!

Asked on February 22nd, 2025When booking the ice cave tour, what part of that days tour plan will we miss and what is the extra cost? My mom's main goal is to see the lights. If we are nearing the end of our trip and haven't had success, are there optional night excursions to add on in hunt of them?
- GJ TravelOperator•Written February 2025
Unfortunately not as the schedule is quite packed. The pick up for the Ice cave is at Glacier Lagoon which results in you having less time there to explore. The Ice cave is booked through our guide on day 2 of the tour.
- GJ TravelOperator•Written February 2025
If you book the ice cave tour you get less time exploring Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon and there won't be time to explore the Diamond beach. This tour has a track record of 85-98% chance of seeing the Northern Lights so it's very likely you'd see some during the tour, but in the unlikely event that you don't see any, I would recommend the Northern Lights boat tour with Special Tours on day 7.
- N
Nicole

Traveler•Written February 2025I was wondering about traveling in april, do you think is a good chance to see the northern lights or should i consider another month since winter will be ending?
- GJ TravelOperator•Written February 2025
We actually have a 100% success rate of seeing the Northern Lights in April in this tour last season, as the tour is for 7 nights you have 7 chances of them being visible. We keep statistic for each month, and we had the best success rate in December and April last season. Please note that this is not a guarantee, the weather is always the decider of the Northern Lights being visible or not, but the chances are in your favor.
