You'll arrive in Colombo at whatever time works for your flight. Your transfer from Bandaranaike International Airport is taken care of, and there's a welcome meeting scheduled to help you get your bearings for the trip ahead.

- Day 2
Wilpattu National Park
Head to a coconut plantation first to learn how this major export works and see local industries in action. From there, you'll drive into Wilpattu National Park for a 4x4 safari with a local guide who knows where to find leopards, elephants, wild boar, sloth bears, and spotted deer. You're staying overnight at a safari camp just outside the park in a tented accommodation.

Anuradhapura
Travel to Anuradhapura, the ancient capital and a UNESCO World Heritage site that goes back to the third century B.C. You'll have the freedom to walk around at your own pace, checking out the palaces, gardens, Buddhist temples, and monasteries.

Landmarks Anuradhapura - Day 4
Habarana to Dambulla
Start in the village of Habarana to get a real sense of daily rural life. You'll take a traditional bull cart ride through vegetable fields and rice paddies, meet local residents, and paddle a canoe on a lake. Lunch features local specialties, then you head to Dambulla for the evening.

- Day 5
Sigiriya
Climb up to Sigiriya, known as Lion's Rock, a fifth-century royal city on a granite peak and another UNESCO World Heritage site. The steep steps lead you through beautiful gardens, caves, monasteries, and palaces with frescoes and views over the jungle. After exploring, you'll head back to Dambulla with some free time.

Dambulla to Kandy
Walk through the Dambulla Cave Temple, which holds Sri Lanka's largest collection of cave shrines with Buddhist murals and a big reclining Buddha carved into the rock. Next stop is a spice garden in Matale where you'll learn about how local spices are used for healing. Later you reach Kandy to see the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and catch a traditional music performance in the evening.

Kandy
Spend time in Kandy, the last capital of Sri Lanka's Sinhala dynasty. The Royal Botanic Gardens of Peradeniya are worth your time, historically closed to regular people. Stop at Sthree Craft Shop and Café, a G Adventures-supported social enterprise, for a handicraft demo and local tea tasting with scones. You can optionally walk around Kandy Lake or try an Ayurvedic massage.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Drive through scenic mountain roads to Nuwara Eliya, the heart of Sri Lankan tea country. You'll visit a tea plantation to see how Ceylon tea is grown and processed, then have a cup yourself. The roads through the hills are cool and misty, winding past tea bushes. There's an option to have high tea at the colonial-era Grand Hotel if that appeals to you.

Landmarks Grand Hotel - Day 9
Horton Plains to Udawalawe
Get an early start heading into Horton Plains National Park for a trek through high altitude grasslands and cloud forest. You'll have a picnic breakfast and work your way to World's End, where a dramatic drop shows incredible views down to the plains and southern coastline. After that, you travel to a tented camp on the edge of Udawalawe National Park.

Udawalawe National Park
Take a jeep safari through Udawalawe National Park, known for large herds of elephants. You'll keep an eye out for water buffalo, jackals, and different deer species while exploring the park.

Landmarks Udawalawe National Park - Day 11
Negombo
The camp chef gives you a cooking demonstration focusing on local specialties. Then you drive to Negombo, a small port town where the rest of the day is free. This historic place shows influences from Portuguese, Dutch, and British rule in its old quarter, and it was once a major cinnamon trade hub. You can visit the Old Dutch Fort, check out ornate Catholic churches, or walk along the beach if you'd like.
