Itinerary
- Day 1
Catania
You'll arrive in Catania on Sicily's east coast with Mount Etna visible above the city. If your flight gets in early, there's time to walk the cobblestone streets and check out Piazza del Duomo before settling into your accommodation. The official welcome meeting happens at 6 pm where you'll meet your group leader and other travelers. After that, the evening is free to either relax or grab dinner with the group if you're up for it.

Catania to Syracuse
This morning you're heading up Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano, for a day trip. You'll reach about 2000m altitude on the northern side where you'll explore a lava cave with helmets and torches, then walk through extinct craters in the Sartorius Mountains. Later you'll travel to Syracuse where your leader gives an orientation walk through the city's main areas. The evening is yours to explore or rest up as you like.

Syracuse
You have the whole day free in Syracuse to do whatever appeals to you. Wander through the winding streets and check out the ornate building facades with their balconies decorated with stone carvings of lions, tigers, bears, and dragons. If you want activity, there's a scenic boat trip around Ortigia island, or you could visit the Neapolis Archaeological Site. Otherwise just stroll through cafes and grab a granita in the afternoon.

Syracuse to Agrigento
After breakfast you'll head toward Agrigento with stops along the way. First up is the limestone town of Noto, then Ragusa, a beautiful baroque city that was rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake. You'll walk through narrow alleyways past elegant baroque buildings before continuing to Agrigento, where you'll arrive late afternoon. Spend time exploring the historic center up Colle di Girgenti hill, walk along Via Atenea and Viale della Vittoria for sunset views over the Valley of the Temples and sea, and try the local gelato pecorino at a cafe.

Agrigento to Marsala
A local guide takes you through the Valley of the Temples today, bringing this ancient Greek site to life. You'll visit the temples of Hera, Herakles, Zeus, and Castor and Pollux while taking in views of the landscape and Mediterranean Sea. After the guided tour finishes, you travel on to Marsala, a coastal town on western Sicily's edge.

Marsala to Palermo
You're heading to Palermo with scenic stops along the route. First you'll explore Erice, a well-preserved medieval town with diverse architectural styles from different periods of history. Pick up a traditional Sicilian pastry like a Genovesi filled with custard or ricotta cream. Then continue into Palermo and you'll have a free afternoon to wander the maze of small alleyways, market squares, and winding roads, or check out main monuments including the 12th century cathedral in the old city center.

This morning a local guide takes you on a walking tour exploring Palermo's anti-Mafia movement and civil resistance history. You'll visit places like Teatro Massimo, Cape Market, Piazza della Memoria, and Beati Paoli Square, each with street food and stories of shop owners who stood against extortion. Afterward you can either visit Monreale cathedral which sits above Palermo with panoramic views, or explore Palermo on your own. Tonight you'll have a farewell dinner to celebrate your Sicilian adventure.
