The first and last day is on your own in Reykjavík so you can pack in as much or as little as you want. The remaining 6 days was packed with amazing sites and great hotels. We got to see the northern lights on our 1st night as the sky cleared up, but sadly it remained cloudy the rest of the tour and we were unable to see it. But the hotels we stayed at would have been perfect if the weather cooperated. Thor of GJ Tours was awesome! He had so many stories of Iceland that he told us as we drove around. And going in the offseason was great as there were less tourists around.Show more

We saw northern lights on two nights and each day had a fantastic day filled with a mix of beautiful sights, historical information, educational and our tour guide added lots of folklore. Everything from stories about the Vikings, early settlements and the trolls. We added the ice caves tour. All agreed you would never see so much on your own! This was our first group tour- we usually do solo traveling- 26 people on our tour from all over the world- sounds big but was actually 10 families/couples, so was perfect size to meet so many great people! At so many of the stops you can break off (walking to waterfalls/climbing the volcano) so you were not on top of people the entire time. Do your research on food as meal variety was limited- not by tour but hotel restaurants had limited items- lamb, fish and usually a burger. Stopping at Market first day helped to work around food allergies - bought GF snacks/bread for the trip. Comfortable coach bus- great driver! If you want to see Iceland this is the trip!! I've traveled a lot but the glacier beach was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen. The accomodation was generally great, though the hotel in Reykjavik could have been more central. This tour has a moderate activity level, it involves moderate physical activities, including some walking on uneven surfaces, which might be challenging if you have COPD. The tour includes several guided walks, often on uneven ground, particularly around natural sites. There aren't loads of stairs but you will change hotels frequently, as the tour moves through different locations around Iceland. You will stay in 4 different places.
