It was nice to have everything organized for you for the trip but when you're trip is delayed due to weather, it would be nice if there were alternative excursions pre-planned rather than last minute scrambling day by day and if they were covered by Intrepid. Since the trip was delayed, it adds an additional expense you weren't expecting.

This was a fantastic experience all round. The trip was well organised, fun, and the booking experience was fantastic considering the time constraints (booked one working day before departure). The skipper (Paolo Zeni) was excellent.

The boat was in great condition. The Bavaria 51 was a delight to sail. Very stable, responsive and fast. Would recommend installing towel hooks in the heads. The food was amazing as it was purchased locally in Italy. Our captain also accompanied us to a few excellent restaurants ashore. The other passengers were very friendly and we had a wonderful time getting to know them. The weather was not cooperative with our plans and we spent one of our sailing days at dock waiting for heavy winds to subside. Once the winds moderated at midday on our final day we got underway and had an amazing sail along the Amalfi Coast, past Capri and to the isle of Procida. Our guide, Alessandro, was cheerful, helpful and always kept an eye on our safety. He was friendly and happily answered our questions, and served as an informative guide ashore. He made the decision to stay at dock when the winds were strong and explained in great detail the reasoning behind his conclusion. As a charter captain myself in the US I understood his concerns and would not argue with his decision. We were disappointed to lose a day on the water, but I appreciate that we had a captain who was concerned foremost with our safety. Overall, we had an amazing experience. Our only regret is that we couldn’t have more time.

I am confused, the details below indicate meals are not included, but we are on a boat, so where else do we eat? Are we in port for 3 meals a day?

On this trip it's compulsory to contribute to a kitty of EUR50 per person. The kitty is an on-ground payment put into a central fund managed by travellers. It helps fund for breakfast and lunch on the boat and other small items such as ice, water, snacks and drinks. Travellers are responsible for the preparation of these meals onboard and to shop at port where supermarkets are often very close to the mooring.

We suggest EUR 150 for meals. For most dinners and some lunches, we will moored in a port or marina near meaning that the group will have a choice of on-land eating options available. We find our group often eat together however you have the freedom to go off and do your own thing. Our skippers can recommend options for restaurants and on many occasions will dine with the group. Joining point: Restaurant Lido Delle Sirene, Piazzale dei Protontini, Amalfi, ITALY.

    Asked on April 20th, 2023

Would the nearest airport be Naples? Will that be my airport incoming and outgoing from the country?

    Flights / Transfers
    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten April 2023

Naples will be the closest airport. If you are arriving only for the trip and not continuing with any onward travel yes I would recommend looking at flights flying in and out of Naples. Getting to Naples Airport from Procida includes taking a ferry or hydrofoil and there are a number of departures every day and takes about 40 - 60 minutes. The arrival terminal in Naples depends on what ferry you catch. But a taxi to Naples Airport will take approximately 10 minutes and the cost ranges from US$17- US$21.

Hi, You provide a lot of information but I do see anything about the actual sailboat which, for me, is the most important factor when deciding which operator to book with.

I am deeply disappointed on knowing that the tour has sold out on the dates of 31 may to 3 june! I was busy with visa applications - but I really wanted those dates as it's my birthday week. Is there any chance I can get the tour on these dates? Or if I can get a similar tour from your packages on the same dates? I really want to experience the sailing adventure and live on a yatch!

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten May 2022

Unfortunately the May 31st sailing date is fully booked, but please note that this tour takes places on a small sailboat for about 12 people and it is not a yacht. It may not be the style of travel you were looking for. Intrepid does offer Adventure cruises on larger yachts, but sadly we do not have any options running in Italy at the end of this month/early June.

    Asked on January 31st, 2022

Are the cabins equipped with 20 beds, bunk beds, or a double bed?

    Accommodation
    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten February 2022

This itinerary is on our Bavaria 51, which is fairly traditional sailboat. The beds in cabins are a variety of bunks and double beds (and double bed with a divider) or twin. The captain will arrange rooms best they can based on the needs and configuration of the group.

Is it okay to sleep on deck?

This is something that can be discussed with the tour guide on the day. Otherwise the accommodation consists of twin double share cabins.

    Asked on February 18th, 2016

Can you confirm that the bedrooms on the boat have doors, and not curtains?

    Transport
    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten February 2016

The vessel the operator of the tour use in Italy does have proper doors, not curtains. This is the case for all Intrepid's sailing trips around the world.

  • T

    Tim

    Asked on April 23rd, 2015

    What is the local payment?

    Other
    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten April 2015

For Sail Italy - Amalfi to Procida 2015, intrepid requires a Kitty, which is a cash contribution from all travellers into a central fund which is overseen by fellow travellers and the crew. The fund allows the crew to pay for local accomodations, camp meals and activities for the entire group.

The local payment is not paid before the departure, but upon arrival at the tour.
