After lunch and a rest, the trail gets steeper as you hike up a rocky ridge onto the Shira Plateau. You'll see Kilimanjaro's Western Breach with its glaciers from here, and sometimes ice formations hang down the walls. It's a short hike west to reach Shira campsite where you'll spend the night.

The landscape turns rocky as you hike toward Lava Tower (called the 'Shark's Tooth'), which sits at 4,630m and is a prominent volcanic formation several hundred feet tall. Climbers with good footing can scramble to the top if interested. After lunch near Lava Tower, descend for 2 hours below the Western Breach and Breach Wall cliffs down to Barranco Camp. Once you top out just below the Heim Glacier, take time to appreciate the mountain. Then head down through Karanga Valley and over ridges to join the Mweka Route for your descent. You'll complete the South Circuit with views from multiple angles, then turn left and hike up the ridge for another hour to Barafu Hut. Around 11:30 PM, you'll start your summit push, climbing northwest through heavy scree for 6 hours to Stella Point on the crater rim where sunrise awaits. Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate to Mweka Village to Moshi/Arusha

After a good breakfast, take a scenic 3-hour hike back to the park gate through forest that may be wet and muddy. Lower elevations mean you can wear shorts and t-shirts (keep rain gear handy though). At Mweka Gate, you'll sign the register and receive your summit certificate, which is green if you reached Stella Point or gold if you summited at Uhuru Peak. If roads are too muddy, there's a 3km muddy hike to Mweka Village. Then enjoy a hot lunch before driving back to Moshi or Arusha for a hot shower and a comfortable hotel night.

A friend recommended SED Adventures to us after she booked a safari with them. From the very beginning I found SED Adventures very helpful. I had a million questions to ask and they always promptly replied with lots of helpful information. They organized a safari that was within our budget range and gave us a few itineraries to browse through, giving options. They organized everything all we needed was to book our international flights. The safari was very organized and everything was very efficient. The accommodation was surprisingly much better than I presumed for Africa, and we stayed in some fabulous lodges, especially the Roika tented lodge in Tarangirie. Our driver Apollo was always helpful and had a great deal of knowledge about all of the wildlife and local life. Nothing was too much for him , he catered to all of our needs. I would definitely recommend SED Adventures to anyone. They were friendly, reliable and organized.

We are very satisfied with the service agency SED Adventure. In March 2013 the SED Adventure Travel Tour organized for our group birdwatching. The event was very successful in all respects. I intend in the future to use the services again SED Adventure tourism office. Artur Bujanowicz from Poland
