The Patagonia Wilderness tour was outstanding in every respect! It was well priced, well organized and it exceeded my expectations. I recommend it with any hesitation or reservation whatsoever.

When booking Intrepid Patagonia Wilderness tour, I made my decision relying on positive online reviews about knowledgeable guides and highly professional service. Our tour leader turned out to be completely inexperienced and useless. It was his first time in Patagonia and he basically felt and acted like on holidays. His very poor general knowledge of Patagonia made my experience rather incomplete and defective. Furthermore, he was unable to perform such basic tour leader tasks as communicating effectively with the whole group (instead of passing information to one person or two), providing clear and precise information (instead of confusing and contradicting information regarding general timetable of activities, etc) dealing with issues regarding broken camping equipment, etc. His unsatisfactory and quite poor services caused stressful situations and lots of confusion making the journey much less enjoyable. Plus if your trip is during the peak season, make sure you pre-book yourself any extra activities like Penguin tour or Perito Moreno Big Ice trek (Intrepid offers only the Mini Trek) to actually have a chance at these otherwise you will just get information from the guide that these activities are sold out. And go for Big Ice if you can - it was absolutely fantastic - the mini trek is not really worth it.

What can you say such a wonderful experience to travel with such an astronomical skilled guide Eresnto who was able to successfully blend a multi national group of travellers into a cohesive team that climbed mountains and travelled to the end of the earth and back. Patagonia was a wonderful trip to challenger one self whilst still providing the opportunity to see the beauty of nature and enjoy a mix of fine food and wine at times. Would have enjoyed more hiking days.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Patagonia Wilderness tour. The places visited and the hikes made were just what we wanted and expected from what was presented on the website. Our leader, Matias, was absolutely wonderful...he made it much made than just a tour. We would recommend the trip to others.

I am 76 years old and reasonably fit. Trekking is not for me but reasonable walks are fine. I would be most grateful if you could find something that might fit my needs.

We can recommend Highlights of Patagonia (This trip will raise your heart rate. Moderate physical activities are included and a good level of fitness is required.) which would actually end in Puerto Natales (Chile). However, day 7 includes a trek that can take up to 8 to 10 hours. No experience is required, but a moderate level of fitness is recommended. You can always inform your Tour Leader if you are not comfortable doing the trek so that they can make arrangements for you to not participate.

What is the maximum size luggage that is allowed? Is the expectation that all luggage/belongings would be carried for the entire trip or are there opportunities to downpack into a hiking backpack and have the luggage stored for the days at a campsite?

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten February 2023

A single supplement is available from an extra $980 USD if you'd prefer not to share a room on this trip. The single supplement excludes Days 7, 8 and 9 (Camping) where you will be in shared accommodation and is subject to availability.

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten February 2023

Our tours do not include the cost of international airfare, which allows our travellers to join the trip from their desired location. We can help make arrangements for arrival, departure transfer and extra nights of accommodation.

Whilst we can give advice regarding the demands of a trip you are best placed to assess your own capabilities. We therefore ask you to thoroughly read the Trip Notes for the itinerary you have selected and realistically self-assess your ability to complete the trip as described. We strongly recommend you to consult with your doctor, particularly if you have any medical conditions. Please also note the maximum age limit for the optional Perito Moreno Glacier Trek is 65 years old.

    Asked on August 25th, 2022

How can I assess my fitness level to enjoy the Patagonia Wilderness trip? What are the parameters for an "active" rating?

    Tour Details

    • Intrepid TravelOperatorWritten September 2022

The Physical rating for this tour is 4/5. There's no self-assessment form for this tour; if you're comfortable with trekking/walking long periods over multiple days, this trip might be right for you. We recommend that you undertake a regular aerobic exercise in the months before you travel, particularly if you are not in the habit of regular exercise. Doing mountain walks or climbing long staircases with a pack is good preparation. Walking, jogging, swimming or riding a bike are all good ways to increase your aerobic fitness, which will allow you to enjoy the trekking to its fullest.
