Itinerary
- Day 1
Tokyo
You'll arrive in Tokyo and get through customs, then hop on a shared shuttle bus heading to your hotel. After you check in, the rest of the day is yours to do what you want. Take it easy, wander around the neighborhood, or just relax at your hotel. In the afternoon, you'll get information about what starts tomorrow so you know what to expect.

- Day 2
Tokyo
This morning you've got about a five-hour guided city tour lined up hitting all the major spots. You'll see Zojoji Temple with Tokyo Tower in the background, then head to the famous Shibuya Crossing where the crowds are incredible. From there, the tour goes through Meiji Shrine and Omotesando Avenue before swinging by the Imperial Palace gardens and Nijubashi Bridge. Next you're heading to Tokyo Skytree to get panoramic views from up high. After lunch, check out Asakusa's Sensoji Temple and grab some souvenirs on Nakamise Street. By evening, take the subway over to Shinjuku and walk around the busy district before having dinner at a local restaurant.

- Day 3
Tokyo - Kamakura - Enoshima - Odawara
Leave Tokyo early and head to Kamakura, an old city filled with temples and shrines. Your first stop is Hokoku-ji Zen Temple where you can walk through the bamboo forest and have a cup of green tea there. Then you'll check out Sugimoto-dera, the oldest temple in town from 734. You get free time to explore the city center before seeing the Great Buddha (Daibutsu), which is pretty hard to miss. After that, drive along the coastal road to Enoshima island where you can grab lunch and walk around. To finish things off, head to Odawara and visit the impressive medieval castle from the Edo period.

- Day 4
Odawara - Mount Fuji - Kawaguchiko
Start heading toward Mount Fuji and the Hakone area. First up is Owakudani, the Valley of Hell, where you can see volcanic craters with steam and bubbling mud coming out of the ground. Then you're going to the village of Oshino Hakkai with its eight ponds and views of Mount Fuji. Travel down to Kawaguchiko, a quiet lakeside town, and take a boat ride on Lake Kawaguchiko. Later, drive up Mount Fuji to the Fifth Station at 2,305 meters (7,562 feet) where the views of the forest and mountains really open up. For the night, you'll stay at a traditional ryokan with access to the onsen (public hot spring bath) to soak and relax.

- Day 5
Kawaguchiko - Iyashi no Sato Nenba - Toyota - Kyoto
Take a scenic route around the lakes and stop at Iyashi no Sato Nenba, an open-air museum in a village that was restored after a 1966 typhoon hit. Walk through traditional houses that are now shops selling arts and crafts, restaurants, and cultural exhibits. Then you're heading to Shiraito Falls, where water drops 20 meters down in a really nice setting. Next is the Toyota Museum in Nagoya if you're interested in cars. By evening, you'll arrive in Kyoto for an overnight stay.

- Day 6
Kyoto
You've got the full day to explore Kyoto, which was Japan's capital from 794 to 1868. Head to Arashiyama first and see the Togetsukyo Bridge, also called the Bridge over the Moon. Visit Tenryuji Temple, one of Kyoto's five great Zen temples and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, then take a quiet walk through the bamboo forest. Check out Fushimi Inari Shrine with its rows of gates, the Imperial Palace, and Kinkakuji Temple, the Golden Pavilion with its beautiful gardens. Later, stroll through Gion, Kyoto's traditional district that's lively and known for geishas.

- Day 7
Kyoto - Nara - Osaka
Head out to Nara and visit Todaiji, a big Buddhist temple from 752 with a giant Buddha statue inside. You can take photos and actually see deer wandering around the park freely, and they're friendly. Next is Horyu-ji Buddhist Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with a seminary, monasteries, and temples all together. The central pagoda here is one of the oldest wooden structures around and Japan's oldest Buddhist temple. Drive to Osaka arriving in the evening, then head to Dotonbori, a colorful busy district with tons of nightlife and restaurants.
