Colonia del Sacramento
You're heading to Colona del Sacramento in Uruguay for the day, which dates back to 1680 and sits on UNESCO's World Heritage list. Wander through the old quarter with its colonial buildings, and technically you'll visit a different country, which can help if you need to renew your visa before heading back to Buenos Aires.

Lima to Nazca via Ica
You'll leave Lima early on a Cruz del Sur bus. A 2-hour guided tour of the Ballestas Islands lets you see the sea life and the Candelabro formation. After that, Huacachina oasis has lunch and optional activities like boats, then comes an hour of buggy riding and sandboarding before heading to Nazca.

Nazca to Colca Canyon

Cusco to Puerto Maldonado
After arriving in Puerto Maldonado, Peru's biodiversity capital, you'll take a city bus tour then get on a motorized boat down the Madre de Dios River. Look for capybaras, caimans, turtles, and herons. Check into Eco Amazonia Lodge, have lunch, walk the interpretive trail to Caiman Cocha lake, and watch the Amazon sunset before dinner.
