Itinerary
- Day 1
Bilbao
You'll land at Bilbao airport and connect with your tour transfer by 3 p.m. at the latest. From there, it's a drive to Hotel Rebeco in Cantabria, which sits right within a national park. The staff will greet you when you arrive, and then you'll settle in for the night to rest up before the trek begins.

Fuente Dé to Cordiñanes
Your first trekking day starts at Fuente Dé in Cantabria. You'll climb the steep Liordes Canal heading toward the Vega, which holds the record for Spain's coldest temperature ever recorded. After crossing the Vega, you'll descend through the Asotin canal and reach Cordiñanes village positioned between two massifs. By evening, you'll be staying in León province after crossing through the central Picos de Europa.

Cordiñanes to Vega de Ario
This morning starts with an easier descent down to Caín village for a coffee break. Then you'll walk the famous Cares river route, traveling through a scenic gorge that's considered one of Spain's most popular hiking trails. After leaving the river valley, the path climbs steeply up to the Vega de Ario refuge, your first night in the western Picos de Europa massif.

Vega de Ario to Vegarredonda
Today's section is the easiest stretch of your trek. You'll head down gently from the refuge, passing shepherds' houses at Las Bobias along the way. The trail leads to the beautiful Covadonga lakes, which carry significant historical importance. You'll walk around the lakes, cross through Enol valley, go over the Pan de Carmen pass via Gamonal, and finish the day at Vegarredonda refuge close by.

Vegarredonda to Vegabáño
You'll tackle one of the most spectacular sections today by crossing the Cornión massif from north to south, with altitudes reaching over 2,000 meters. The day involves challenging ascents, passing below Peña Santa de Castilla at 2,596 m, navigating the dog canal and steep Collado del Frade descent. After that, you'll enter a beautiful forest with beech and oak trees before arriving at Vegabáño refuge, one of the park's most comfortable lodges.

Vegabáño to Fuente Dé
This is your final and longest trekking stage. The landscape changes from limestone cliffs and jagged peaks to green meadows, dirt tracks, and forests as you progress. Starting from the refuge, you'll climb to Dobres Pass, then descend through Caldevilla, Soto, and Posada de Valdeón villages (leaving León province). After that comes the hardest climb back to the Urrieles massif as you return to Cantabria. The last 7 km are on easier paths leading back to Fuente Dé.

Cantabria (Leisure Day)
After five days of trekking, you'll have a rest day at the hotel to recover and think back on your week. There are optional activities available if you want to do something, or you can just relax and take it easy. It's your choice how to spend the day.
