Itinerary
- Day 1
Essaouira to Marrakech
You'll start early from Essaouira and head inland toward Marrakech, driving up through the High Atlas Mountains. The route takes you over Tizi n'Tichka Pass where you'll want to stop for photos of the mountain scenery and valleys below. After crossing the pass, the landscape opens up and you'll descend toward Marrakech, arriving by mid-afternoon. Once you check into your riad or hotel, spend the rest of the day wandering around Jemaa el-Fna Square where you can watch street performers and snake charmers, browse the surrounding souks for local crafts, or find a quiet spot for mint tea and people watching.

- Day 2
Marrakech to Merzouga Desert
After breakfast in Marrakech, you'll head out through dramatic mountain and desert landscapes. The drive takes you through Ouarzazate and then to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO site with an old kasbah that rises up from the valley floor. From there you'll continue southeast into the Valley of Roses near Kelaat M'Gouna where you can see rose gardens and argan oil cooperatives, then move on through Tinghir and into the Todra Gorge with its towering cliff walls on either side. You'll reach Merzouga by late afternoon, and this is when the real adventure starts. You'll mount a camel for a ride out across the Erg Chebbi dunes, watching the light change as the sun sets over the sand. That evening at the desert camp you'll eat traditional Berber food, enjoy music around a campfire, and sleep under the stars.

- Day 3
Merzouga to Midelt to Volubilis to Fès
You'll wake before sunrise to climb onto the dunes and watch the sky change colors across the Sahara, then return to camp for breakfast. After that you'll leave Merzouga and travel northwest toward Fès, passing through Erfoud and the Ziz Valley where you'll see palm groves and small oasis villages dotting the landscape. As you continue north through the Middle Atlas Mountains near Midelt, the terrain shifts and becomes more forested. Before reaching Fès, you'll stop at Volubilis to walk through the Roman ruins there, checking out the mosaics, temples, and stone arches that are still standing. You'll arrive in Fès by late afternoon or early evening, get settled into your riad or hotel, and have a quiet evening to relax after several days of travel.

- Day 4
Fès
This morning you'll take a guided tour through Fès, which is really the spiritual and cultural heart of Morocco. Your guide will walk you through the UNESCO-listed medina, show you the Al-Qarawiyyin Mosque and University (the oldest one in the world), take you to historic medersas, and navigate the lively souks and famous tanneries. The guide shares stories about the city's history, traditions, and culture as you go. After lunch, the afternoon is free and you have several options. You can wander through more souks on your own, sit down for coffee in a traditional café, visit the peaceful Mellah which is the Jewish quarter, or simply relax back at your riad. Later on, your driver will take you to your hotel or to the airport depending on where you're heading next.
