- Day 1
Cluj-Napoca
You'll arrive in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania's unofficial capital, and if your flight gets in early enough, there's time to walk around this 2000-year-old city. The famous Piezisa Street is worth checking out for a drink before the 6 pm welcome meeting where you'll meet your trip leader and other travelers. Dinner with the group follows so everyone can get to know each other.

Cluj-Napoca to Gura Humorului
Today you're traveling from Cluj-Napoca toward Gura Humorului. Along the way, you'll stop at the Tasuleasa Social NGO headquarters to learn about the Via Transilvanica trail project, a 1400 km route connecting diverse regions and communities across Romania. After lunch, you'll continue on to Gura Humorului and settle into your accommodation for the night.

Gura Humorului
You'll head to Sucevita to visit the Sucevita Painted Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its detailed frescoes. After that, a guided hike takes you through forests and rolling hills past nearby villages with views toward the Carpathian foothills. The hike finishes at Moldovita where you'll see another UNESCO-listed painted monastery before returning to Gura Humorului for the night.

Moldovita to Vatra Dornei
After breakfast you'll travel to Moldovita and visit the Painted Egg Museum to learn about the art, patterns, and cultural meaning behind traditional egg painting. Then it's time for a guided hike along the Via Transilvanica trail to Sadova, which includes some short but steep climbs through quiet forests and meadows. You'll pass through traditional villages like Sparturi while taking in views of Bucovina's valleys, then transfer to Vatra Dornei for the night.

Paul Mestecanis to Vatra Dornei
Your hike starts in Paul Mestecanis and descends through the Carpathian landscape with quiet forests, open meadows, and wide views of surrounding hills. You'll stop for a homemade lunch at Cabana Gigi Ursu mountain chalet, which has great views. The hike finishes in Vatra Dornei, a spa town known for its mineral springs, and you'll have the evening free to explore before heading back to your accommodation.

Vatra Dornei to Sighisoara
A morning transfer takes you to Sighisoara. After lunch, you'll do a guided walk through this well-preserved medieval town with its colorful houses and cobbled streets. The rest of the day is yours to explore at your own pace. You might climb up to the Clock Tower or visit Biserica din Deal (Church on the Hill). For dinner, your trip leader will recommend a local restaurant.

After breakfast you'll hike from Saschiz to Sapartoc on the Via Transilvanica through the Terra Saxonum region, known for its Saxon heritage and countryside. You'll visit the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Saschiz Fortified Church with its 15th-century defensive tower and Gothic architecture. Later you'll stop in quiet Sapartoc Village to experience traditional Transylvanian life, then have a home-cooked dinner with local ingredients before returning to Sighisoara.

Viscri to Bran
You'll travel to Viscri where the day's hike begins. First, you'll visit the Mihai Eminescu Trust, a foundation working to preserve Romania's cultural heritage and support restoration of traditional architecture. Then your hike goes through Transylvanian landscapes with meadows, forests, and panoramic views of the Fagaras Mountains, passing through traditional Saxon villages and visiting the UNESCO World Heritage fortified church in Viscri. The hike ends in Cobar village where you'll have dinner and a wine tasting of local produce before traveling to Bran.

Zarnesti to Brasov
You'll start with a scenic guided hike from Zarnesti to Bran, climbing gently toward Magura Peak with sweeping views of surrounding valleys and hills and the dramatic Bucegi Mountains in the distance. The route goes through meadows with wildflowers and traditional houses with great photo spots of iconic Bran Castle. After the hike, you'll explore Bran Castle to learn its history. Later, you'll transfer to Brasov for check-in and a special farewell dinner.
