Liberia
You'll get to Liberia on your own schedule and spend the afternoon checking out the 'white city' at whatever pace works for you. Walking through Calle Real, you'll see colonial buildings from centuries past, and there are cafés and restaurants scattered throughout if you want to grab a bite or just people-watch from a table.

Liberia to Ometepe
After heading to Nicaragua, you'll cross at Peñas Blancas where Lake Nicaragua and Ometepe's two volcanoes come into view. From there, take the ferry out to Ometepe Island, then stop by Charco Verde nature reserve to walk through the green lake area and dry forest. Later, you'll drive to Santo Domingo beach for the night.

Ometepe to Granada
Start the day at Finca El Porvenir to see pre-Columbian ceramics, stone figures, and petroglyphs from indigenous peoples around 3,000 years back. Then it's back to Moyogalpa port and a ferry ride to the mainland, followed by a drive to Granada. Once there, a guide takes you through this colonial city founded in 1524, showing you the cathedral, Convent of San Francisco, and Casa de los Tres Mundos cultural center.

- Day 4
Granada
Drive up Mombacho volcano to 1,200 meters and walk through one of Nicaragua's last cloud forests. At the 1,345-meter crater, you'll get views of Granada and Lake Nicaragua below. After that, visit the Pueblos Blancos villages known for their folklore and crafts, check out a traditional workshop, see the Laguna de Apoyo crater lake from Catarina, and finish with a boat tour through the Isletas de Granada archipelago with over 365 islands.

Granada to Liberia
After breakfast, head to the Peñas Blancas border post and say goodbye to your guide. Cross back into Costa Rica and drive to Liberia, which wraps up the tour. If you prefer, arrange a transfer instead to a hotel on the Gulf of Papagayo, over to Tamarindo, or back to San José.
