    Arrival in Bucharest

    When you arrive in Bucharest, you'll be met at the airport and transferred directly to your river ship. This gives you time to settle into your cabin and get oriented before the ship departs.

    Veliko Tarnovo

    A local guide takes you through Veliko Tarnovo, walking the cobbled lanes around the fortified walls. You'll see the restored Tsarevets Fortress, a medieval citadel from the Second Bulgarian Empire. Grab lunch at a local restaurant, then head back to the ship.

    Belogradchik

After that, the ship takes you to Belogradchik to see its ancient fortress on the northern slopes of the Balkan Mountains and the town's unusual rock formations.

    Novi Sad

    In Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city, you pick what appeals to you. Either take a guided tour down Zmaj Jovina, the main walkway with iconic sights, or visit a local farmstead for traditional Vojvodinian breakfast, music, and freshly made doughnuts.

    Puszta Region

    We completed the Switzerland by Rail tour followed by the river cruise from Amsterdam to Budapest. The land based tour requires a lot of walking. There are no transfers from the station to the hotel, with two exceptions, one transfer is by ferry and the other by bus because the hotel is 10 km out of town. All other transfers from 500 mt up to 900 mt are on foot. For the land based tour you need to carry everything with you for the day as your luggage goes by separate courier to the next hotel. There are certain excursions on the land based tour that will be a challenge for older people, or those with health issues. APT do not disclose the risks associated with these prior to selling you the tour. River cruising first class. Consider the additional cost of a balcony room, as during the second week of the cruise, the ships are moored two and three abreast and your balcony is only 1 mt away from the ship next door.

    • For any tour departing before April 5th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after April 5th, 2026, a minimum payment of $1,100 is required to confirm your booking with APT. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 120 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
