Bolaven Plateau
Head out on a day trip to Bolaven Plateau, an old volcanic region filled with coffee and tea plantations plus tribal villages. You'll see several waterfalls, including Tad Fan which drops 300 meters, and Tad Yueng. The day wraps up at a tea and coffee plantation where you can try some local products.

Wat Phou and Mekong River Cruise
Start by visiting Wat Phou temple, an ancient pre-Angkorian site that's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From there, take a traditional longtail boat on a quiet cruise along the Mekong River to Don Deth Island. You'll then explore Don Khone island (lunch is included), followed by a stop at Liphi waterfalls, which locals call the 'Corridor of the Devil' because of how dramatic they are.

Khone Phapeng Waterfall
This morning is yours to do whatever you'd like and explore on your own. After lunch, you'll get back on a boat to the mainland and head to Khone Phapeng Waterfall, the largest in Southeast Asia. The water flows so powerfully here that it actually stops boats from traveling up the Mekong River toward China.

Pakse to Vientiane
Stop at Talat Dao Hueng market in the morning, then transfer at noon to the airport for your flight to Vientiane, Laos's capital. Once you land, you'll be picked up and taken to your next location.

Plain of Jars
Transfer at 7 a.m. to the domestic airport for your flight to Xiengkhoung province. You'll visit three different Plain of Jars sites, starting with site no. 3 about 30 km southwest of Phonsavanh, then moving on to sites no. 2 and no. 1. These ancient earthenware jars, carved over 2000 years ago, weigh anywhere from 600 kg to 6 tons. No one knows their original purpose for certain, though theories include funeral urns, wine fermentation, or rice storage.

Plain of Jars

Transfer at 8 a.m. to the train station and board train C92, which leaves at 9:45 and arrives in Luang Prabang at 11:47. The city tour covers Luang Prabang's history and culture, including the Royal Palace Museum and Wat Xiengthong temple. You'll also check out the older temples Wat Mai and Wat Visoun, climb Mt. Phousi for views over the city and Mekong River, and browse the night market.

Luang Prabang Temples and Waterfalls
Start your morning watching the spiritual alms-giving ritual with saffron-robed monks. At 9 a.m., board a boat for a Mekong River cruise to Ban Sing village to see a local temple and civet farm where you can sample civet coffee. You'll visit a buffalo farm to try buffalo milk ice cream, then head to Kuangsi waterfall for swimming or hiking. The day finishes at an elephant camp.
