Itinerary
- Day 1
Tromso
You'll arrive in Tromso, sitting on an island just north of the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. If your flight gets in early, take some time to walk through the local galleries or catch a boat ride around the island to get oriented. At 6 pm, head to your hotel for a welcome meeting where you'll connect with your local leader and the rest of your group. After that, everyone heads out for dinner together to try Norwegian cuisine and start getting to know each other.

Tromso to Abisko
You're traveling by bus to Narvik, then switching to a train on the scenic Ofoten Railway heading to Abisko in Sweden. The 42-kilometre route cuts through the Arctic wilderness with views of fjords, mountains and waterfalls the whole way. Once you arrive at the historic mountain lodge in Abisko National Park, you'll be tired from the travel day, so dinner is hearty Swedish food followed by an early bedtime to recharge.

- Day 3
Abisko
Today you're hiking a section of the Kungsleden trail, which spans 450 km and crosses four national parks. You'll walk past mossy walls in Abisko Canyon, stop at Marmorbrottet, a marble quarry from the 1800s, and take a break at Lake Njakajaure where red-throated divers or Arctic terns might show up. The return crosses mountain heaths dotted with wildflowers. Since it's the Midnight Sun season, there's no pressure to rush back. Lunch happens along the way, and you can fit in an optional afternoon hike if you're up for it.

Abisko to Gallivare
Start with a relaxed morning at the lodge and an optional hike on the Abiskojokk loop trail near Lake Tornetrrask if you want to stay active. In the afternoon, you'll catch a train to Gallivare, a small town in Sapmi, the ancestral homeland of the Sami people. Check into your hotel and spend your evening at the Gallivare Museum learning about Sami culture, traditional reindeer herding and ice fishing, or just relax and rest before tomorrow.

Gallivare to Vilhelmina
You're riding the Inlandsbanan train through Swedish Lapland, known for its retro vintage carriages and laid-back vibe. The train stops several times to break up the journey, including a photo stop at the Arctic Circle marker. Watch the scenery shift from thick pine forests to open wetlands, rivers and small Swedish villages as you head south. You'll arrive in Vilhelmina with time to explore the town or grab a meal at a local spot known for smoked fish and game meats.

Vilhelmina to Ostersund
A cultural tour with the Vilhelmina Sami Association kicks off your day with two traditionally dressed guides leading you through an open-air museum of traditional huts, homes and Sami artifacts made from hide, bones and antlers. You'll learn how the Sami connect with nature, settlement life and reindeer herding practices. Lunch is traditional, featuring deer meat, vegetables and bread. Then you're back on the Inlandsbanan train heading to Ostersund with a stop in the remote town of Sorsele. You'll arrive late, so plan on resting up for the day ahead.

Ostersund
You have the full day to yourself in Ostersund, a relaxed city sitting on Lake Storsjon's shoreline. The Jamtli Museum offers multi-sensory exhibits and living reenactments about the Jämtland and Härjedalen regions of Sweden. Walk around the lake, take a dip in the water if you're game, and check out the cafes and restaurants around town since Ostersund is a UNESCO City of Gastronomy with local artisan shops. Ask your local leader for personal recommendations if you need ideas on where to go.

Ostersund to Stockholm
You're heading to Stockholm by train this morning, though you'll need to make multiple connections along the way so bring snacks for the long ride. When you get to Stockholm, your leader will take you on an orientation walk through the Swedish capital, then you'll have free time to explore on your own. The city has historic and modern architecture, including the UNESCO-listed Old Town called Gamla Stan, plus museums, parks and a waterfront area. The archipelago nearby has over 30,000 islands accessible by ferry. In the evening, there's an optional farewell dinner with your group if you want to join.
