- Day 1
Moshi/Arusha to Rongai Gate
After breakfast and a briefing in Moshi or Arusha, you'll drive to Rongai Gate near the Kenyan border. Once you finish registration, the hike begins with a gentle ascent through cornfields and pine forest where you might see Colobus monkeys moving through the trees. By evening, Kibo peak comes into view in the distance as you reach camp.

Landmarks Mount Kilimanjaro - Kibo Peak Rongai Gate - Day 2
Second Cave Camp
Today you're trekking across moorland and open heather with steady uphill sections. The landscape opens up to show Kenya's plains stretching out below, and Kibo's snow-capped summit becomes more prominent. You'll reach Second Cave camp, which takes its name from a small lava cave nearby where you'll spend the night.

Kikelewa Camp
The trail crosses more moorlands and gets steeper as you approach Kikelewa Camp. You'll likely start noticing the altitude here. The camp sits in a sheltered valley with grassy terrain around it, and from here you can see Mawenzi Peak rising up in the distance.

Mawenzi Tarn Camp
A short but steep climb takes you above the vegetation zone. From this vantage point, both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks are visible in excellent views. Camp is positioned beneath Mawenzi's dramatic rock spires next to a glacial tarn, which is an alpine lake fed by high-altitude snow and ice.

- Day 5
Mawenzi Tarn Camp (Acclimatization Rest Day)
This is your rest day, and it's important for letting your body adjust to the altitude. You'll take a short acclimatization hike around Mawenzi's ridges or head toward the Saddle between the peaks. This break significantly improves your chances of reaching the summit successfully.

Landmarks Mount Kilimanjaro - Mawenzi Peak - Day 6
Kibo Hut
The trail heads across the desolate alpine saddle separating Mawenzi and Kibo. It's a long, dry section with wind picking up throughout the day. You'll arrive at Kibo Hut in the early afternoon, giving you time to rest and mentally prepare for the summit attempt starting tonight.

- Day 7
Uhuru Peak Summit and Descent to Horombo Hut
Summit day kicks off around midnight with a steep and challenging push up switchbacks to Gilman's Point at 5,681m/18,652ft, then continuing to Uhuru Peak at 5,895m/19,341ft, Africa's highest point. After photos and time at the summit, you descend back to Kibo Hut for a brief rest, then make the longer trek down to Horombo Hut.

Marangu Gate to Moshi/Arusha
Your final descent takes you through the heath and rainforest zones where birds and monkeys might appear. At Marangu Gate, you'll complete the sign-out process and receive your summit certificate if you reached the top. From there, a vehicle drives you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha.
