Itinerary
- Day 1
Lemosho Glades to Big Tree Camp
Start at Lemosho Glades (2385m) and head into lush forest terrain for your first day on Kilimanjaro. The trek to Big Tree Camp (2780m) takes you through thick vegetation and introduces the mountain environment. You'll gain about 400 meters in elevation, which helps begin the acclimatization process at a gradual pace. This opening day sets the foundation for higher altitude trekking ahead.

Big Tree Camp to Shira 2 Camp
Leave Big Tree Camp (2780m) behind and trek upward through the forest zone toward Shira 2 Camp (3900m). Today's the day elevation becomes more noticeable, as you'll climb over 1100 meters. The scenery shifts from dense forest to more open terrain as you transition into the alpine zone. Keep pace with your guides who'll monitor how you're adapting to thinner air.

Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp
Head out from Shira 2 Camp (3900m) to Barranco Camp (3960m), a shorter distance but still at significant altitude. You'll cross the high altitude plateau and get clear views of both Kibo and Mawenzi peaks during this trek. The elevation gain is minimal here (60 meters), which is intentional for allowing your body more time to adjust before pushing higher.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Trek from Barranco Camp (3960m) to Karanga Camp (3963m) on a relatively short day that focuses on acclimatization rather than distance. You're staying at nearly the same elevation, which gives your body crucial time to adjust. This measured approach reduces the risk of altitude sickness as you prepare for the steeper sections ahead.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Make the significant push from Karanga Camp (3963m) up to Barafu Camp (4640m), gaining about 680 meters today. This camp serves as your staging point for the summit attempt, so you'll want to arrive with energy still in reserve. The landscape becomes increasingly barren and rocky as you reach this critical altitude.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Millennium Camp
Set out in the early morning darkness from Barafu Camp (4640m) for the summit push to Uhuru Peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. You'll climb about 1255 meters through alpine desert and scree slopes, then descend the same day to Millennium Camp (3790m) for recovery. It's a long, demanding day but reaching the summit makes it all worthwhile.
