- Day 1
Kruja
Make the 45-minute drive from Tirana to Kruja and start at the castle, which sits high on the mountain and gives you a real sense of the area's strategic importance. Inside, the Skanderbeg Museum tells the story of the national hero Gjergj Kastrioti Skanderbeg and his resistance against Ottoman rule. After you finish there, head down to the Old Bazaar where you can walk through narrow streets lined with shops selling traditional items like handmade carpets, antiques, and local crafts. If you want more views, the Sari Salltik Tekke sits even higher up and offers panoramic perspectives from the mountain's peak.

- Day 2
Berat
Drive about 1 hour 45 minutes to reach Berat, a medieval city that feels like stepping back in time. Start by going through Berat Castle, which people still live in today, and you'll get excellent views of the surrounding area. The Onufri Museum is located inside the castle and has Byzantine religious art that's worth seeing. After that, wander through the Mangalem and Gorica neighborhoods where the Ottoman-style houses with their characteristic 'thousand windows' line the streets. The Gorica Bridge from the Ottoman era connects these neighborhoods and makes for a nice walk across the Osumi River.

- Day 3
Bovilla
About an hour from Tirana, you'll reach the trailhead for Bovilla. The hike to the panorama viewpoint takes roughly 40 minutes and ranges from easy to moderate difficulty. Once you get there, the views of the lake and mountains spread out below you. Bring a picnic or plan to spend some time at one of the rest spots around the viewpoint. Later, head to Restaurant Bovilla for lunch where they serve traditional grilled meat and fresh trout caught locally.

Durrës
Travel 40 minutes from Tirana to Durres, which sits on the Adriatic coast and ranks among the region's oldest cities. The Durres Amphitheater is the largest Roman amphitheater in the Balkans and gives you a sense of how important the city was in ancient times. You can also see the Venetian Tower and remnants of old city walls that show the different empires that controlled the area. The Archaeological Museum holds a solid collection of artifacts from ancient Illyria that help fill in the historical picture. Wrap up the day with a relaxing walk along the seaside promenade where locals and visitors hang out by the water.
