Itinerary
- Day 1
Negombo
You'll touch down at Colombo airport where your tour leader is waiting to take you to Negombo, which is only about 20 minutes from there. This first day is pretty laid back with nothing scheduled, so if your flight gets in early, you can spend time at the beach or relax by the hotel pool. Once evening rolls around, take a walk along the shore and catch the sunset.

Negombo to Anuradhapura
Following breakfast, you'll head to Anuradhapura, stopping at Munneshwaram Hindu Temple on the way. The afternoon brings a jeep safari through Wilpattu National Park where you might see leopards, elephants, deer, and birds in their natural habitat.

Anuradhapura to Sigiriya
After breakfast, you visit several sacred Buddhist sites including the Sri Maha Bodhi Tree, Ruwanweli Seya Stupa, and Isurumuniya Rock Temple. When you reach Sigiriya, there's a cultural village tour with a bullock cart ride and canoe ride included. In the afternoon, you'll climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO site that rises 200 meters above the forest.

Sigiriya to Polonnaruwa
There's an optional early morning hike up Pidurangala Rock if you're interested. After breakfast, you'll cycle through Polonnaruwa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, passing the Royal Palace and Gal Vihara's Buddha statues. That afternoon, a 4x4 jeep safari at Minneriya or Kaudulla National Park gives you chances to spot wildlife.

Polonnaruwa to Kandy
Post-breakfast, you'll visit the Royal Cave Temple Dambulla and then head to the Matale Herbal Garden to learn about Sri Lankan medicinal plants. Once you arrive in Kandy, you visit the Temple of Tooth Relic and attend a cultural dance show in the evening with traditional Kandyan dancing, drumming, and fire-walking performances.

Kandy
You start with the Gem Museum to see Sri Lanka's sapphires and rubies. From there, the Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden is next, one of Asia's largest with over 4,000 plant species to walk through. Later you'll drive to Kithulgala for white-water rafting on the Kelani River.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast, you head toward Nuwara Eliya with stops at viewpoints and waterfalls along the way. You'll visit a tea plantation and factory to see how Ceylon tea is made, then walk around Nuwara Eliya's city center and its fruit and vegetable market.

Nuwara Eliya to Ella
Following breakfast, you take a train from Nanu-Oya station to Ella village on one of the world's most scenic railway routes, passing through tea plantations, forests, and misty mountains. Once in Ella, you visit the Nine Arch Bridge and can hike on peaceful trails with good photo opportunities.

Ella to Mirissa
In the morning, you visit Ravana Waterfall near Ella. On your way to Mirissa, you'll check out the Hummanaya Blow Hole, a natural geological site that shoots dramatic water spouts during high tide. After settling into your beachfront hotel, you can relax on white sandy beaches under palm trees.

Mirissa to Colombo
After breakfast, you drive to Galle and walk through the 16th-century fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with colonial architecture and a historic lighthouse. You'll take a relaxing boat ride through the Madu River mangroves and visit a Turtle Hatchery Center. If time allows before heading to the airport, there's a Colombo City Tour option.
