Itinerary
- Day 1
Wellington
You'll arrive in Wellington and get settled into your hotel. After that, the city's there to explore on your own terms. Te Papa Museum is a major draw if you're interested in New Zealand culture, while Cuba Street offers quirky shops and cafes for browsing. The cable car ride gives you nice views over the city if you want something quick. Later this evening, meet up with your Tour Director and the group for a welcome reception.

- Day 2
Ohakune
The Northern Explorer Scenic Train heads north and the views start immediately. You'll travel along the Kāpiti Coast where rivers, gorges, and ravines cut through the landscape. Make sure to get out on the open-air carriage sections for the best sightseeing. Once you reach Tongariro National Park, you'll arrive in Ohakune in the afternoon with free time to check out whatever outdoor activities interest you.

Landmarks Tongariro National Park Kāpiti Coast - Day 3
Ohakune
This is your day to plan around Ohakune's outdoor options. You can take a historical rail cart journey if that appeals to you, or try horse trekking through the hills and native bush. The Old Coach Road is popular for e-bike exploring, where you'll pass old viaducts, tunnels, and sections of reclaimed forest. Pick what works for your energy level and interests.

Ohakune to Auckland
Start the morning checking out Ohakune's local shops and cafes, then board the Northern Explorer again heading toward Auckland. The train winds down the historic Raurimu Spiral and crosses the Central Plateau where three iconic volcanic mountains come into view. You'll see icy mountain streams and eventually the green dairy pastures of the Waikato region as you get closer to Auckland.

Waiheke Island
Have breakfast at your hotel, then head to Downtown Ferry Terminal for the day trip to Waiheke Island. Hourly ferries and half-hourly buses give you flexibility to hop on and off at spots you want to see. Spend your time sightseeing and visiting wineries or other attractions at your pace. Return to Auckland by evening for a farewell dinner with your guide at a popular local restaurant.
