After that, head to the slow boat pier for your journey into Laos. Lunch happens on board and it's traditional Lao food while you learn about local customs from your guide. The boat stops at Ban Keng Lae, a traditional Kamu village with around 70 families, where you can see how rural life actually works in Laos. You'll arrive in Pakbeng before evening to check into your hotel and have the rest of the day to yourself. Dinner's on your own.

Breakfast at your hotel comes first, then you're back on the slow boat at 8:00am. Your guide and cooker will show you how locals make handicrafts and prepare traditional Lao desserts and drinks, which is actually pretty hands-on. Lunch is served on board while you travel through jungle scenery. The boat stops at Ban Muang village where lao lao whiskey gets produced, then you'll visit Pak Ou Caves with over 2,000 Buddha statues, a significant pilgrimage spot for Lao Buddhists. You'll taste those homemade desserts and drinks the team prepared earlier. By 4:30pm you're in Luang Prabang, transferred to your hotel with free time after. Dinner is on your own.

There's an optional early morning option to participate in the daily alms-giving ritual with saffron-robed monks if you're interested. After that, walk through the fresh local markets and head back to your hotel for breakfast. From there you'll see Wat Visoun with its distinctive rounded Sinhalese-style stupa, then check out Wat Aham. Vat Xiengthong comes next and it's the most photographed temple around, sitting on a peninsula where the Mekong and Khan Rivers meet. In the afternoon, the former Royal Palace, now the National Museum, is on your list along with Wat Mai, which features golden bas-relief work. You'll arrange your own meals throughout the day.

After breakfast, transfer to a small village overlooking rice fields for a bamboo experience. You'll learn what bamboo's used for and play traditional childhood games with metal balls and crossbows. Then comes a guided bamboo weaving session with an expert where you cut bamboo pieces and weave them for about an hour to make your own mat to take home. You'll discover how bamboo shows up in traditional Lao cooking like in bamboo shoot soup and dishes with banana leaf and sticky rice. Lunch features these creations in a traditional pavilion-style house. Later, ferry across the Mekong to Ban Xiemienne village and walk to Wat Long Khoun temple in the jungle, historically important to the royal family. Return to your hotel with free time after.
