Teotihuacan
After breakfast, start at the Plaza of the Three Cultures in Mexico City where historical layers sit side by side. Then drive 40 km out to Teotihuacan to walk around the Pyramids of the Sun and Moon, plus the Temple of Quetzalcoatl and the Avenue of the Dead. You'll also stop by a local artisan center and the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe on the return trip. The rest of your day is open.

Mexico City to Queretaro
Spend your morning wandering Mexico City on your own terms. After lunch, head to the bus station for the 200 km ride to Queretaro. Once you arrive, transfer to your hotel in this UNESCO World Heritage city founded back in 1531, known for colonial buildings, baroque churches, and an 18th-century aqueduct.

- Day 4
San Sebastian de Bernal - Tequisquiapan
Head to San Sebastian de Bernal, a quiet Pueblo Magico sitting at the base of the world's third-largest monolith, to watch textile artisans work. Next, check out Tequisquiapan, which has mineral water spas and colonial charm, where you can browse handmade woven baskets. You'll tour San Patricio Winery and Bocanegra Cheese Cellar, learning how they make cheese and wine at high altitude, followed by a regional wine tasting.

Hacienda Atongo
Take the morning to continue exploring Queretaro at your own pace. In the afternoon, drive 40 km to Hacienda Atongo, a 17th-century estate where actors in period costumes bring the hacienda's history to life. Walk through the main buildings and vineyard, have a drink made from estate wine, then return to Queretaro for the evening.

Queretaro to Tula to Puebla
Travel to Tula, the ancient Toltec capital, and walk through the archaeological site to see the Atlantean figures, four-meter-tall warrior statues, along with pyramids, palaces, and carved columns. Later, head to Puebla, a historic city famous for its food, colonial architecture, and ceramics. See the Renaissance cathedral and the main square before settling in for the night.

Puebla to Oaxaca to Monte Alban
Drive toward Oaxaca through mountain scenery and arrive by late morning. Explore this UNESCO World Heritage city founded by the Aztecs, then head up to Monte Alban, a Zapotec city sitting 400 meters above the valley. You'll get a guided tour and admission, then return to Oaxaca with free time to wander around on your own.

- Day 8
San Pablo Villa de Mitla to Tuxtla Gutiérrez
You'll start early in the morning and head to San Pablo Villa de Mitla first, where there's a 16th-century Church of San Pablo worth checking out. Walking through the streets gives you a feel for this quiet pueblo, and it's a nice stop before the longer drive ahead. After that, you'll continue through Oaxaca's mountains toward the Isthmus, with lunch provided along the way. By late afternoon, you'll roll into Tuxtla Gutiérrez, the capital of Chiapas, where you'll wrap up for the day.

Canon del Sumidero - San Cristobal de las Casas
Sail up Canon del Sumidero, a canyon roughly 1 km deep and 14 km long. Walk through Chiapa del Corzo, a colonial town, then head into Mayan communities. Visit Zinacantan to see traditional women's dress and weaving workshops, and San Juan Chamula where the church blends Christianity with indigenous traditions. Arrive in San Cristobal de las Casas by afternoon with free time.

- Day 10
San Cristobal de las Casas to Palenque
Travel through Chiapas mountain communities where Mayan language and traditions remain strong. Stop in Ocosingo, then continue to Agua Azul National Park with admission and lunch included. Walk or swim among more than 50 waterfalls ranging from 3 to 30 meters high. See Misol Ha, an impressive waterfall you can walk behind. Arrive in Palenque with dinner. Note: if roadblocks occur in Ocosingo, you'll visit Villahermosa and the Yumka ecological reserve instead.

Palenque to Campeche

Campeche to Merida
Travel to Yucatan state and arrive in Merida after just over two hours. Spend the day exploring Yucatan. First, visit Izamal, one of Mexico's most beautiful cities and a Pueblo Magico. Then head to Chichen Itza, the most important Mayan site and a World Heritage location, where you'll see the Pyramid of Kukulkan and the Warriors' Temple with a guide and admission. Afterward, have a Mayan cuisine lunch, then continue to Rio Lagartos, a small fishing village within a Biosphere Reserve.

Start with a morning boat ride over two hours into the biosphere reserve to spot crocodiles, birds like pelicans and pink flamingos near the mangroves. Try a mud treatment with high sulfur and mineral content that exfoliates skin. Travel to Valladolid, Yucatan's third-largest city with a charming historic center. Explore Cenote Choj Ha, run by the local Mayan community, walking through jungle to swim in an underground lake. Arrive in Cancun by late afternoon.
