Nuuk to Ilulissat
A 1.5-hour flight takes you from Nuuk to Ilulissat. Hotel Arctic is your base for the next few days, and it sits right above Disko Bay so you'll have great views. After checking in and attending an information session, you'll take a guided walk through town. Your guide covers Ilulissat's roots as a trading post from 1741 and explains both Greenlandic traditions and life today, 300 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. You'll pass the harbor and local market, stop at Knud Rasmussen's birthplace (he was an important Arctic explorer), and see the wooden Zion Church. Dinner happens at the hotel to wind down.

Ilulissat
This morning you hike to Sermermiut, a former settlement on the ice fjord where Inuit people lived for about 4,000 years. Your guide explains their life and traditions before Europeans arrived, and you'll see ancient ruins while walking on permafrost. The hike goes to 'Old Woman's Gap,' a viewpoint that appeared in a TV series. Later, you'll board a boat for a special trip among the icebergs. The midnight sun lights everything up, and you're seeing ice that breaks off from the Ilulissat glacier daily, sometimes reaching 70 meters high. Definitely bring warm layers or rent them before you go.

Ilulissat
Today centers on whale watching from a boat in local waters. Around 15 whale species live here, and summer brings humpback, minke, and fin whales fairly often. They move around Disko Bay and sometimes venture into the ice fjord. Skippers pilot speedboats in wide circles and stay connected with fishermen who spot whales frequently. If you prefer a different experience, kayaking is optional but needs booking ahead. You'd paddle between ice floes in double kayaks (stable and safe) with a motorboat alongside, spending 3.5 to 4 hours total on the water, at least 2 hours actually paddling. Either way, you're on the water seeing the landscape up close.

Ilulissat to Eqi Glacier
You'll board a boat from Ilulissat heading north toward Eqi Glacier, which sits about 80 kilometers away. The ride takes between 2 to 5 hours depending on what type of vessel you're on. Once there, you get to watch chunks of ice calving off into the fjord from a safe vantage point, then grab lunch at the glacier itself. After spending 1 to 2 hours in that area, the boat continues to Port Victor. Guides from Glacier Lodge Eqi will be waiting for you there and take you to your accommodation, where you'll be staying for the next two nights.

Ilulissat
You have the entire day to yourself and can organize it however you want. If you choose the optional inland ice excursion to Eqi, you'll follow a route once traveled by French explorer Paul-Émile Victor. The hike goes through blooming fields, windy ridge tops, and moraines toward an impressive ice sheet with visible cracks and glacial streams. Your guide is trained specifically for ice hiking and leads the way, though no technical climbing is required. This covers 25 kilometers with 1,000 meters of elevation gain, so it's physically demanding. Later, the kitchen team prepares warm Greenlandic meals at the café while the midnight sun turns the sky gold above the icebergs or you hear glaciers calving in the distance.

Glacier Lodge Eqi to Ilulissat
After leaving Glacier Lodge Eqi, you hike around a small lagoon at the glacier's southern end where geese often gather during breeding season. From there, you head up to the moraine to see massive cracks in the ice and watch pieces break off at the glacier's front. Around 14:15, you board a boat back to Ilulissat, cruising along the same scenic route you came. Once you arrive in town, you transfer to Hotel Arctic for your final night there, taking in views of the ice fjord one more time.
