Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Hanoi

    Meet your group in Hanoi between 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., then grab lunch together. The afternoon takes you to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum's exterior, followed by Ho Chi Minh's stilt house, the One Pillar Pagoda, and the Temple of Literature. You'll take a pedi-cab ride to Ngoc Son temple before dinner, then settle into your four-star hotel for the night.

    Hanoi to Halong Bay

    Head out early for Halong Bay, a drive of about 3.5 hours. After boarding the cruise ship, you'll have a welcome cocktail and lunch. Spend your afternoon exploring the limestone islands in the emerald-colored bay. Dinner happens on board, and the ship stays anchored overnight.

    Halong Bay to Hanoi

    Start early with a Tai Chi class on deck, then continue through Halong Bay to see one of the largest caves. Brunch is served before you disembark at 11:00 a.m. On the way back to Hanoi, stop at Dinh Bang communal hall for pho soup tasting. Watch a traditional water puppetry show in the evening, have dinner, then return to your hotel.

    Catch a flight to Ho Chi Minh City and transfer to the city center for lunch. The afternoon involves touring the Reunification Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, and Saigon Central Post Office. Head to Cholon for a market tour and Thien Hau temple. Later, transfer to your ship, get settled in your cabin, meet the crew at a welcome cocktail, and have dinner on board.

    You have free time on board, or you can visit the Cu Chi tunnels, an extensive underground network from the Vietnam War. After lunch, stop by the Museum of Vietnamese History. The ship then begins cruising toward the Cho Gao canal for an overnight stay on board.

    Mekong Delta

    Cruise through the Cho Gao Canal to see daily Vietnamese life centered on fishing, farming, and transport. In My Tho, visit a bee farm and enjoy honey tea with exotic fruit, then take sampans along the mangrove-lined canal. Lunch is served on board. Later, continue to Vinh Long in the Mekong Delta to visit a brick and pottery factory, explore puffed rice production, and taste rice alcohol before an overnight stay.

    Visit the former house of Huynh Thuy Le, the man who inspired Marguerite Duras' 'The Lover.' You'll have free time in Sa Dec before returning to the ship for lunch as you cast off. Cruise to Chau Doc, a border town between Cambodia and Vietnam, and stay on board overnight.

    Tour the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, which has over 5,000 silver tiles inlaid throughout. Visit the National Museum of Cambodia and have lunch in the city. In the afternoon, you can optionally visit Tuol Svay Prey School, then explore the market. Return to the ship for a classical Khmer dancing and music performance, dinner on board, and free evening time.

    Arrive in Koh Chen and explore this small village where craftspeople work with silver and copper. Lunch is served on board. Head to Kampong Tralach to visit the beautiful Vihara at Wat Kampong Tralach Leu pagoda, crossing through the village along a small road surrounded by rice fields. The ship remains anchored overnight.

    Wow what an amazing bucket list ticking experience. Thoroughly recommend CroisiEurope for this journey. Our ship the RV Lan Diep was perfect in all ways. The rooms are spacious and impeccably clean. We cruised from Ho Chi Minh to Siem Reap but the majority of the group had started in Hanoi and were spending three days in Siem Reap at the end. The staff are fantastic and the food was great. A large buffet breakfast with an egg station, freshly made beads fruits and the usual western breakfast offerings. Lunch was another buffet with various dishes that changed every day. A mixture of local and mainly western food. Dinner was either a set shared menu or you chose what you would like at lunch time. Plenty of food and the variety was good. We enjoy local flavours but the food was largely to western taste. Every day we went on interesting excursions and our local guides both the Vietnamese and Cambodian were excellent and very knowledgable. Particular highlight was the Sampan ride in Vietnam and riding in ox drawn carts in Cambodia in the rain (bring an umbrella if it’s rainy season). Things can change quickly on the River and so be prepared for small changes in the itinerary depending on the season and the water levels. Our cruise director Nicolas was incredible. Great guy, brilliant organisation and nothing was ever a problem. He, the guides and the onboard staff were all true professionals and really made our trip. The crew organise your visa for the border and so you don’t need to worry about that part of the journey. I would suggest buying a local SIM card if you want to stay connected as the wifi across the ship is really only accessible in the bar and not in your rooms. The majority of the time we had really good internet on the local SIM card. Come prepared for the heat and humidity, the rain on occasions and to be experience things you haven’t before. You don’t need to be fit for this trip but you do need to be able to negotiate stairs and uneven ground. When you arrive back at the ship they have ice cold towels and a cold drink which was a really nice touch. Finally, pack a smile and a good attitude and learn how to say good morning, how are you and thank you in Cambodian. The staff love it ?

The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 120 days prior to the departure date of your tour.
