Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Easter Island Arrival

You'll land at Mataveri International Airport and head to your hotel in Hanga Roa village. After getting settled, the rest of the day is yours to explore however you like. Take a walk around the harbor, grab a drink to watch the sunset, or head along the coast to check out some of the earlier archaeological sites like Ahu Tahai and Playa Poko Poko. It's a good way to get your bearings and start seeing what the island has to offer.

  2. Day 2

    Ahu and Crater Excursion

This is a full day of archaeology. You'll start at Ahu Akahanga, then move on to Rano Raraku, the volcanic crater where they actually quarried the moai. After that there's a picnic lunch, followed by a visit to Ahu Tongariki where 15 giant moai stand together. Later you'll head to Anakena beach to see Ahu Nau Nau before heading back to the hotel. The evening is free, so you can rest up or explore Hanga Roa on your own.

  3. Day 3

    Orongo and Western Sites

Morning starts at Ororio village on the southern tip of the island, where the ancient birdman cult competitions used to happen. You'll walk through the ruins and check out petroglyphs there. Lunch is on your own time in Hanga Roa, then the afternoon continues with Ahu Akivi and its 7 moai positioned to catch the sunset, followed by Puna Pau quarry where they made those distinctive red volcanic ash hats. Before heading back, you'll stop at Ahu Vinapu, which has this really interesting Inca-like stonework. Your final evening is free at the hotel.

  4. Day 4

    Departure

Your morning is open, so you can sleep in or do something optional if the hotel arranges it like bike rentals or an extra trip to a site you missed. In the afternoon you'll transfer to the airport for the one daily flight heading back to Santiago. The flight usually leaves in the afternoon and takes about 4.5 hours, so plan accordingly. If you want to squeeze in one more quick visit somewhere before leaving, the hotel can help arrange that.
