Itinerary
- Day 1
Frankfurt to Singapore to Medan
You'll depart Frankfurt heading to Medan, Sumatra with a stopover in Singapore. The flight uses Singapore Airlines or another carrier in Economy Class, so it's a good time to settle in and get comfortable for the long journey ahead.
- Day 2
Medan
After landing in Medan, you'll transfer to your hotel and spend the day recovering from travel. Rest and adjust to the local time zone before your jungle adventures begin.
- Day 3
Medan to Bukit Lawang
The drive to Bukit Lawang takes you through oil palm forests and rubber plantations over about 4 hours and 100 km. Once there, you'll explore the area around Gunung Leuser National Park and settle into your lodge, with roughly 1.5 hours of walking included.

Landmarks/POIs Gunung Leuser National Park - Day 4
Gunung Leuser National Park Trek
You'll trek deep into Gunung Leuser National Park's forests and hilly terrain for around 6 hours. The UNESCO site contains Sumatran tigers, rhinos, Asian elephants, siamangs, and possibly wild orangutans. After navigating roots and narrow paths, you'll camp overnight in the forest.

Jungle Trek to Aras Pinang River
Wake to gibbon calls and birdsong, then trek through uneven terrain searching for gibbons, orangutans, and wild boar over approximately 4 hours. You'll reach the Aras Pinang River and board tubing rafts for a relaxed float back to Bukit Lawang and your lodge.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Park Exploration
Travel by motor rickshaw to Timbang Lawang village to learn about traditional Sumatran life. Then trek narrow paths near Batu Katak hunting for gibbons, orangutans, and native birds, covering about 4 hours of walking.

Medan to Jakarta
You'll drive back to Medan over about 4 hours, then catch an afternoon flight to Jakarta. The capital serves as your stopover for island hopping to Borneo. Check into your hotel near the airport.
- Day 8
Jakarta to Tanjung Puting National Park
Pick up around 4 am for an early morning flight to Pangkalan Bun. Board a traditional Indonesian river boat called a Klotok in Kumai village to start exploring Tanjung Puting National Park. You'll cruise through nipa mangroves and rainforest, reaching your first orangutan feeding site in the afternoon and anchor overnight on the boat.

Camp Leakey
Depart early heading to Camp Leakey, one of the park's famous research stations. Stop at Pondok Tanguy for morning orangutan feeding, then continue upstream into the black tributary called the Mirror of Paradise. After reaching Camp Leakey, trek narrow paths and wooden walkways to observe orangutans at the research station.

Tanjung Puting Park Exploration and Night Safari
Continue by boat through Tanjung Puting spotting proboscis monkeys, macaques, and kingfishers along the riverbanks. Later, travel to Rimba Eco Lodge and enjoy a night safari through the surrounding marshland in the evening.

Return to Kumai
Head downstream by boat to Kumai village, where your Borneo adventure started. Check into your hotel for the night.

Jakarta to Frankfurt
Fly from Kumai back to Jakarta in the morning, then depart for Germany in the evening. You have the option to extend your Indonesian vacation from Jakarta visiting Bali, Sulawesi, or Komodo instead of heading home right away.

Arrival in Germany
