Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Frankfurt to Singapore to Medan

    You'll depart Frankfurt heading to Medan, Sumatra with a stopover in Singapore. The flight uses Singapore Airlines or another carrier in Economy Class, so it's a good time to settle in and get comfortable for the long journey ahead.

  2. Day 2

    Medan

    After landing in Medan, you'll transfer to your hotel and spend the day recovering from travel. Rest and adjust to the local time zone before your jungle adventures begin.

  3. Day 3

    Medan to Bukit Lawang

    The drive to Bukit Lawang takes you through oil palm forests and rubber plantations over about 4 hours and 100 km. Once there, you'll explore the area around Gunung Leuser National Park and settle into your lodge, with roughly 1.5 hours of walking included.

  8. Day 8

    Jakarta to Tanjung Puting National Park

    Pick up around 4 am for an early morning flight to Pangkalan Bun. Board a traditional Indonesian river boat called a Klotok in Kumai village to start exploring Tanjung Puting National Park. You'll cruise through nipa mangroves and rainforest, reaching your first orangutan feeding site in the afternoon and anchor overnight on the boat.

    The trip was great. The tour was good in itself, but we didn't make any stops in the oases on the trip through the desert. But that was announced. The tour guide was good, but was always on the phone and busy with other things. I would have liked to see a little more nature. Uzbekistan is an agricultural country and we saw very little of it. That could have been done on the trip from Samarkand to Khiva.
