Lisbon
A guided tour takes you through Lisbon's charming streets, Portuguese tiles, and the way the Atlantic light hits the city. You'll head to Belem to see where Portuguese navigators set off on their voyages. The afternoon is yours to walk around Bairro Alto and take in the viewpoint. Later you'll get picked up from Restauradores Square for your evening transfer.

- Day 3
Lisbon to Madrid
Early departure from Portugal into the Alentejo region. You'll stop in Estremoz for coffee, a medieval town with a castle and old cobblestone streets. After that, it's on to Caceres in Spain to see its medieval and Renaissance center. By evening you'll arrive in Madrid and get transferred to Plaza Mayor.

- Day 4
Madrid
Start with a guided tour of central Madrid hitting Paseo del Prado, Cibeles, Neptuno, Puerta de Alcala, Plaza de Colon, and Plaza Mayor. You'll spend time in Retiro Park checking out the lake and Palacio de Cristal. Then there's a tour of Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, Real Madrid's home. The afternoon is free, and you'll head back to your hotel in the evening.

Barcelona to Girona
A guided tour of Barcelona shows you Gaudi's modernist buildings, the busy Ramblas, and the city's history from the Universal Exposition and Olympics. Later you'll head north into Catalonia and walk through Girona's old center with its colorful houses, the historic Jewish quarter, and the cathedral.

After Chillon Castle on Lake Geneva's shores, you'll get to Leysin, a holiday village with views of the Rhone Valley and Mont Blanc. Dinner is included.

Leysin to Zurich
Pack layers because you're heading into serious mountain scenery. A cable car takes you up to Glacier 3000, one of Switzerland's most dramatic spots with year-round ice and snow. You can walk the suspended bridge between peaks, explore the Ice Cathedral, or hit the Fun Park. After lunch in Interlaken, you'll travel to Lucerne and arrive in Zurich by evening with time to check out the city center.

Zurich to Milan
Early start from Zurich heading across the Alps into the Italian-speaking part of Switzerland. Stop in Bellinzona to see three UNESCO-listed medieval castles on the hills above the city with free time to walk around the center. You'll head into Italy, stopping in Como for lunch (the jewel of Lombardy with lakeside gardens and a great cathedral). Later you'll reach Milan where your guide shows you Piazza del Duomo before heading to your hotel.

Milan to Rome

- Day 12
Rome
A three-hour guided tour combines walking through Imperial Rome with a panoramic bus section. You'll see the Arch of Constantine, Colosseum exterior, Imperial Forums, Circus Maximus, Baths of Caracalla, Basilica of Saint Mary Major, Pyramid of Cestius, and Castel Sant'Angelo. The tour wraps up at Vatican City around 11 a.m. and the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel are optional. Dinner happens in Trastevere, and you'll be back at the hotel around 8:30 p.m.

Leave Rome heading north toward Florence. When you arrive, head to Piazzale Michelangelo for views across the city. Walk into the historic center where you'll grab lunch and then get a guided walking tour from a local covering Ponte Vecchio, the Duomo, and Piazza della Signoria (it's basically an open-air museum). Afternoon is free to explore on your own, and plenty of restaurant options are available for dinner.

- Day 16
Salzburg to Vienna
Spend the morning in Salzburg, Mozart's city with its Renaissance and Baroque center under a grand castle. Travel through lakes and mountains to St. Wolfgang, a known pilgrimage destination. Then you're off to Traunkirchen on the beautiful Traunsee Lake where an included boat cruise shows you four of the lake's castles before you get off in Gmunden. From there it's on to Vienna, arriving by evening.

Depart early from Prague and stop in Pilsen in western Bohemia, known for its beer. Rothenburg is next, a town that looks like it came from a fairy tale and is considered one of Germany's most beautiful villages.
