Itinerary
- Day 1
Arusha/Moshi to Londorossi Gate
After breakfast at your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, you'll be picked up and driven to Londorossi Gate, which takes 2-4 hours depending on where you're staying. Once you arrive, you'll handle the paperwork and sign the mountaineering book. From there, a short 4x4 ride takes you to Morum Barrier Gate before your first hike begins through heathland at 3500 meters elevation to your first camp.

Shira Plain
After a substantial breakfast, the day involves hiking relatively level paths across Shira Plain at high altitude. You'll see giant lobelia plants and heath and moorland as you move through this section, which many consider the nicest part of the entire trek. This day serves as important acclimatization time at higher elevation.

Landmarks Shira Plain - Day 3
Shira Plateau to Barranco Camp
Today you'll climb roughly 800 meters of altitude, but your ending point sits at nearly the same elevation as where you started, which is part of the acclimatization strategy called 'climb high and sleep low'. The route crosses Shira Plateau toward Lava Tower, then drops into Barranco Valley with its alpine climate and distinctive vegetation. After around 6 hours of hiking, you'll reach Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp to Barafu Camp
After breakfast, you'll leave Barranco Camp and face the demanding Great Barranco Wall ascent, then continue to Karanga Valley Camp at 4070 meters. From there, you'll head up a ridge to Barafu Camp at 4600 meters, which becomes your base camp for the summit push. The day is tough but rewards you with solid views of Kibo's southern glaciers.

Summit Ascent and Descent
The summit attempt starts from Barafu Camp late at night using flashlights, heading northwest through scree and snow for approximately 6 hours to reach Stella Point at 5725 meters on the crater rim, the physically toughest part of the trek. If conditions allow, you'll catch sunrise from the rim. Another hour of hiking brings you to Uhuru Peak, Africa's highest point. After time at the summit, you'll descend back to Barafu Camp to rest, then continue down to Mweka Camp at 3100 meters.

Mweka Gate to Accommodation
Following a hearty breakfast, you'll walk gently downhill through tropical rainforest to Mweka Gate. Your mountain crew will say goodbye with a traditional ceremony and hand you your summit certificate. After that, you'll get a ride to your accommodation where you can have a cold drink and dinner to celebrate.
