Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Londorossi Gate to Rainforest

Starting your Kilimanjaro journey, you'll get picked up and driven to Londorossi Gate at 2,250m elevation. From there, it's a bumpy 15 km ride to the rainforest trailhead where you'll handle entry paperwork and grab lunch. The actual trek begins after that through thick rainforest vegetation, but since it's a shorter day, you'll have time to settle in and let your body start adjusting to the altitude.

Moshi, Kilimanjaro, Tanzania (Moshi Hotel, 06:00 - 06:30)

  2. Day 2

    Rainforest to Shira Camp 1

You'll trek through the rainforest today, watching as the thick vegetation gradually thins out and transitions into moorland. After about 3 to 4 hours of climbing through rolling hills, you'll reach Shira Camp 1 where you get views of the snow-capped Kibo summit across the Shira Plateau. The day moves you higher while the landscape shifts noticeably around you.

  3. Day 3

Shira Camp 1 to Shira Camp 2

This day is more relaxed than yesterday's push. You'll cross Shira Ridge with its rocky ground and sparse vegetation, then enjoy fantastic views of the Great Rift Valley and Mount Meru as you walk. The trail takes you over ancient lava flows decorated with giant lobelias before you arrive at Shira Camp 2 for dinner and the night.

After breakfast, you're heading upward through boulder-filled terrain toward Lava Tower with Kibo visible ahead. You'll rest at Lava Tower to help your body acclimatize, then descend to Barranco Camp. This climb-high-sleep-low approach is key to managing the altitude changes your body experiences.

You're walking through dry, afro-alpine desert now where the cracked ground crunches beneath your feet.
