Itinerary
- Day 1
Oslo
You'll land in Oslo and take the airport express train or another transport option to your hotel. The city has plenty to see, from the Royal Palace to Gustav Vigeland Park with its 192 sculptures, plus Akershus Fortress and the museum island of Bygdøy. Karl Johans Gate, the main shopping street, has street musicians and boutiques worth checking out, and the Holmenkollen ski jump gives you nice views over the city and fjord. You're staying in an upper middle-class hotel tonight.

- Day 2
Oslo to Sognefjord
Board the Bergen Railway early and travel through the highlands toward Fjordland. You'll cross Hardangervidda, a piece of Arctic terrain where wild reindeer sometimes appear. From Myrdal mountain station, take the Flåm Railway down to the Sognefjord, known as the 'King of the Fjords' at 1,308 meters deep with waterfalls dropping down steep cliffs. An upper middle-class fjord hotel is where you'll sleep tonight.

- Day 3
Sognefjord to Bergen
From Flåm, you'll take an electric fjord boat through the UNESCO World Heritage Site Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord, sailing the narrowest fjord in Norway with steep rock faces on either side. After that, travel by bus along the winding Stahlheim route to Voss, then board the Bergen Railway again for more views as you head to Bergen, arriving in the afternoon. Walk through Bergen's Hanseatic center with its cozy cafés and restaurants. You're in an upper middle-class hotel tonight.

- Day 4
Bergen
Start at Bergen's market square facing Vågen harbor, where the fish market is always busy. Walk through the narrow streets of the Bryggen district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with its preserved Hanseatic merchants' houses and warehouses. Around 17:30, you'll head to the Havila Voyages ship for a 20:30 departure. The next 4 nights you'll be on board with coastal scenery and nature surrounding you throughout the voyage.

Ålesund
You'll arrive in Ålesund around 10 in the morning. The town spreads across several islands and seems to rise right out of the sea. Head up Aksla, the city hill at about 135 meters, for views of Art Nouveau houses and the harbor with offshore Atlantic islands as your backdrop. Kirkegate, Apotekergata, and the pedestrian zone Kongensgate have the most interesting buildings. At 8 pm, the ship continues toward Molde, so you're spending the day on board.

- Day 6
Trondheim
In the morning, you'll sail into Trondheimsfjord to visit Norway's third largest city. Trondheim goes back to 997 when Viking king Olav Tryggvason started a royal court here. It was the seat of Norwegian archbishops until 1536 and a pilgrimage destination. The Nidaros Cathedral, started in 1070, is Norway's only cathedral and the city's most famous sight. Cross the old city bridge and walk through Bakkalandet, a UNESCO World Heritage Site from the 17th century with wooden houses along the Nidelva River. Meals and overnight stay are on the ship.

- Day 7
Arctic Circle to Lofoten
You'll cross the Arctic Circle between Nesna and Ørnes, entering European Arctic territory where the Northern Lights show up in winter. The ship stops briefly at Bodø, European Capital of Culture 2024, where you can walk into the city center. Later, sail through the Vestfjord to Stamsund on the Lofoten Islands, then along the south coast to Svolvær, Lofoten's capital. Ship meals and overnight stay included.

- Day 8
Vesterålen to Tromsø
The sea voyage today shows off the Vesterålen archipelago. You'll sail through the Risøysund strait to Hinøya, Norway's largest island, and the town of Harstad. Along Senja island's sheltered southern side, the ship stops at Finnsnes before reaching Tromsø in the afternoon. You're staying 3 nights in an upper middle-class hotel in Tromsø.

- Days 9 - 10
Tromsø
You've got plenty of time to explore Tromsø, the natural capital of Europe's Arctic where expeditions traditionally launched from. The Ice Sea Cathedral, built in 1965, is Tromsø's landmark with its shape inspired by northern Norwegian landscapes. Check out the city's museums and the cable car, plus venues like Mack, the world's northernmost brewery. One evening you'll do an aurora borealis safari in a minibus with a local guide, driving to valleys with good chances of seeing the Northern Lights while learning about the phenomenon and Arctic life. Meals are included and you're in your upper middle-class hotel both nights.
