Colombo to Anuradhapura
Travel inland to Anuradhapura, which was Sri Lanka's capital centuries ago and remains a major Buddhist pilgrimage site. You'll spend 2 nights in the Sigiriya area, staying at either Sigiriya Village or Hotel Habarana Village by Cinnamon depending on your accommodation choice.

Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa
This morning involves an early climb up Sigiriya's rock fortress, a 5th-century palace perched 200 meters high with views stretching across the plains below. After coming back down and having lunch, you'll head to Polonnaruwa to walk through the remains of another ancient royal city from the medieval period.

Dambulla and Kandy
Start by heading to Dambulla to see the cave temple carved into a hillside, then continue toward Kandy with a stop at a spice garden to see how local herbs and spices grow. Once you arrive in Kandy, take a city tour and visit the Buddha's Tooth Temple, the main attraction here, before settling into your hotel.

Kandy to Nuwara Eliya
Begin at the Peradeniya botanical garden with its riverside setting and tropical plants. After that, check out a jewelry and art factory to see local craftsmanship. Then head uphill toward Nuwara Eliya, stopping at a tea factory and plantation to learn how tea is processed, followed by a walk through town to see its colonial-era British architecture.

Yala to Colombo
Begin your journey back to Colombo airport, driving through the morning and early afternoon. You'll arrive around 7 pm, or if you're doing a west coast extension between Chilaw and Hambantota, you'll head there instead.
