Copenhagen
Start your trip in Copenhagen with an overnight stay. The city has a lot going on, from interesting architecture to great coffee spots and parks. You can walk or bike to Nyhavn, the colorful canal district, and then head to the waterfront to see the Little Mermaid statue. It's all pretty accessible on foot or two wheels.

Copenhagen to Nuuk
Early departure from Copenhagen gets you to Nuuk, Greenland's capital. The town has under 20,000 people but you'll notice how the old and new buildings sit right next to each other. Check out the old town near the water to find Nuuk Cathedral and the Hans Egede statue. Then head to the harbor where you'll board your expedition ship, get your complimentary jacket, settle into your cabin, and have dinner on board.

Sailing to Disko Bay
As the ship heads toward the Arctic Circle, you'll get into the rhythm of ship life. Make sure to attend the mandatory AECO presentations about Arctic operations since they're required if you want to go on planned landings. The ship has top facilities and experts give lectures about Greenland and Citizen Science projects. During the day you'll cross into Arctic Circle territory where the Midnight Sun takes over.

Disko Bay and Ilulissat
Disko Bay shows up loaded with whales and wildlife, and the water has icebergs scattered all over from the Ilulissat Icefjord. Walk the wooden gangway to get close to the ice fjord with its white, gray and blue icebergs. You can visit the Icefjord Centre to learn how the ice formations work, or hike up to Sermermiut if you want higher views.

Nuussuaq Peninsula to Far North
Sailing past the Nuussuaq peninsula takes you into Greenland's 'Far North' where things move slower and weather calls the shots. This region has archaeological sites going back over 4,000 years. Depending on conditions you might stop at places like Uummannaq with its heart-shaped mountain, or Ukkusissat, check out the Qilakitsoq archaeological site, do nature landings, or cruise through inner fjords in small boats.

Melville Bay
Crossing Melville Bay takes the full day as you travel a huge stretch of icy coast where ice caps meet water. The ship moves well beyond 70 degrees north while you relax on board. Hang out on deck with the Expedition Team to watch for wildlife or sit in on lectures covering Arctic nature, geology and mythology.

Landmarks/POIs Melville Bay - Days 7 - 11
Thule Region Exploration
The Thule region shows you far north Greenland where wild conditions and extreme weather define what life looks like at the edge of civilization. Visit local communities, take small boats to land, see what nature can do, sail through icy channels and look for walruses, orcas, narwhals, belugas and possibly polar bears. The area got settled around 4,500 years ago and gives you real access to traditional hunting culture and Arctic history.

Landmarks/POIs Thule Region - Days 12 - 13
Crossing Baffin Bay
Heading south across Baffin Bay wraps up your Arctic time. Spend days at sea relaxing on board, meeting people you've come to know, catching lectures you missed, and having meals without rushing. Soak in the hot tubs while icebergs float by, which is something special in the Arctic. The Expedition Team keeps watching for wildlife each day and guest speakers continue sharing about Greenland and the region. You can also join Citizen Science projects if interested.

Landmarks/POIs Baffin Bay - Days 14 - 15
Central West Coast Greenland
The central west coast of Greenland shows up with its long fjords and small populations. Stop at Sisimiut, which sits 25 miles north of the Arctic Circle and has remains from the ancient Saqqaq culture going back over 4,000 years. Check out the local museum to learn about this history. Other possible stops are Qeqertarsuaq on Disko Island and Itilleq, a small fishing and hunting village just over a mile north of the Arctic Circle. Hike around, meet locals and scan the water for animals.

Nuuk to Copenhagen
Back in Nuuk you'll say goodbye to the ship, its crew, the Expedition Team and all the friends you made on this trip. The capital looks like a big city compared to everywhere else you've been. If your flight isn't immediate, wander through modern Greenland. Then fly back to Copenhagen carrying memories from the Arctic expedition.

Copenhagen
Your trip wraps up back in Copenhagen. You'll probably see things differently now, understanding how Denmark and Greenland's histories connect. Walk through parts of the city you didn't get to on the first day. If you have time before heading home, check out some of Copenhagen's beaches near the international airport.
