Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Hanoi to Bac Ha

You'll leave Hanoi early in the morning and drive along Vietnam's longest highway, heading through the Red River Delta and into the midland areas toward Bac Ha District. The scenery changes as you climb higher into the mountains. Around lunchtime, you'll stop in Bao Nhai before continuing uphill to Bac Ha town itself. After checking into a local home-stay, you'll have time to settle in and then head out on a 1.5 hour trek to Ban Pho Village, where the Flower H'mong people live. Dinner happens back at your accommodation, so you can rest after the trek.

    Bac Ha to Sapa

Following breakfast at the home-stay, you'll walk through the local market where Flower Hmong, Phu La, Yao, Tay, and Nung people gather to trade colorful embroidery, handicrafts, and daily goods. There's also an animal market nearby if you want to see how locals trade livestock and farm animals. After lunch at a local restaurant, you'll spend roughly 3 hours driving to Sapa. Once you arrive and check in, the evening is yours to do as you like, whether that's resting, exploring town, or grabbing dinner.

  3. Day 3

    Sapa Trekking

You'll get picked up at 8:30 a.m. after breakfast and transfer to Y Ling Ho Village to start trekking in Muong Hoa Valley, the region's largest valley. The trek takes you down through rice terraces, and you'll cross a suspension bridge over a rocky river before heading uphill to Lao Chai Village (this section can be challenging if it's wet, but the views are worth it). Lunch happens at a local restaurant partway through. In the afternoon, you'll transfer to Ho Thau for a second 2 hour trek on quieter back roads with peaceful terrace views. All told, you'll cover about 11 km of trekking, and then head back to Sapa for another night.
