George and his family want to serve and make you happy. George know Kythnos very well as a guide. His mother serves a very nice breakfast. And if needed, his brother is there for additional assistance. Hiking is strenuous at times, but the views and experience make it worthwhile. This is a small group venue. There were only three people on my tour, including the guide George.

This was our first time to Greece and our first time to a Greek island. We took the ferry from Athens, which takes about 3 hours, and were met by George - our guide extraordinaire - as soon as we disembarked. George is everything a guide should be, fun, knowledgeable, and easy going. The hiking is just fantastic! The views were breath taking and many are not in easy to find places. The walking itself was pretty easy as long as you're used to hills and uneven terrain. We really lucked out going in May because the whole island was covered in sea of wild flowers. The temperature was good, a little windy but comfortable. Our room was lovely and over looked the harbour. Every morning we enjoyed breakfast on the terrace, so relaxing! The hikes were a great mix of history, culture, and wildlife. We really had fun making pottery and learning to cook some Greek dishes. An all around success! I highly recommend George. He was considerate, thoughtful, and patient. We really had a great time and hope to go back with family and friends!

My wife and I really enjoyed our hiking tour of Kythnos Island. From the very first contact, Danae from Tour Radar was amazing in providing information and support with signing up for the program. She answered questions extremely promptly and it is evident, that she loves active travel and wants to ensure her customers have a great experience no matter what their ability. The registration and payment was so smooth. We were met at the Port of Piraeus by George, who expertly guided us to and through Kythnos. Believe George knows every person on Kythnos. We had a blast staying in Ms. Zoe’s guesthouse/pension. It was very comfortable, clean and a nice play to chill out after a very active day. The local cuisine in town was delicious and at least a couple of dinners, and all breakfasts were included in the price. Breakfast was perfect to start a busy day. We hiked to many gorgeous locations including the ancient capital, the medieval city, numerous beaches and village. The flowers were all in bloom in April which added to the beauty. The cooking course was wonderful and the beekeeping was very interesting. I would highly recommend this trip, especially for those who like to get off the beaten path of touristy locations. Hope to go on more Tour Radar trips in the future.

We’re a family of three travelling from New Zealand. Our daughter is 10. We were enchanted by Kythnos, it’s mix of history, walks and hikes, beaches, lovely weather, food and hospitality. But the best thing we’re our hosts. George was fun, friendly and knowledgeable and proud of the history of Kythnos and bought it to life for us. We have been travelling for 5 months through the EU and USA but Kythnos and George has topped it all.

The whole experience was amazing from start to finish, the booking was easy and Danae was very helpful recommending the best areas for accomodation for us before and after the tour. George was fantastic, very knowledgeable, funny and kind. We had our 10 year old daughter with us and we all had a fantastic time. The walks were the perfect length and the mix of swimming at beaches, history, pottery and cooking mixed up the days and provided added interest. The breakfast was incredible with local cheeses, fruit, eggs, and Greek yoghurt and honey. The accomodation was lovely and has a spectacular view of the port. This is the best tour I have ever done, would highly recommend to others.

This was such a great tour to the less touristy and beautiful island of Kythnos. It was well planned, with easy booking, and great transportation. Danae was so helpful in the planning and Ms. Zoe was very warm and welcoming to her guesthouse. George was the best guide as his family has been on Kythnos for generations, knew everyone and everything about the island. Each hike was different and went to the scenic areas of the island. I highly recommend and hope to go back to Kythnos in the future.

    Asked on January 28th, 2025

Can this be booked by a travel agent? Are there photos or a website of the accommodations? What is the cancellation policy? Do I go through TourRadar for communication or with the company Trail Beyond? Are there any possibilities to do "add- ons" such as visiting other Greek Islands before or after? What is the name of the village we will be staying in? Is the proximity within walking distance of restaurants etc?

Can we walk from our guest house to the village of Merichas? Is there someone (a guide) who meets us in Athens or do we make it to the port on our own? Once we arrive on the island, is transport arranged to the Guesthouse? I noticed the age range included young children, do you get many children on the tour? What would be the average age?

    • Trails BeyondOperatorWritten January 2025

Kontseta Guesthouse is located next to Merichas port, 50m away (3 minute walking distance). A local guide will meet and greet you at Merichas port and accompany you to the hotel. Luggage is transported by car. The average age for this tour is between 50-60 years old. Although children are allowed, we rarely have children in the group. Families usually choose a private tour.

We are looking at two possible dates- end of April and May 12th. What are the temperature and popularity of each date? We don't want to be the only ones on the guided tour end of April if it's less popular. Are most restaurants and businesses open end of April?

    • Trails BeyondOperatorWritten February 2025

Last days of April might be cooler (11-20 Celsius), while mid-May temperatures range from 15-25 Celsius. Both April and May dates are equally popular. Most businesses open officially when summer season starts in April, especially with Greek Easter on 20/04. Restaurants and businesses will be open as normal.

Are there dogs following or stray dogs on the walks? I have been to Greece last year, only saw 1 dog in Skiathos and no real issues in Athens. I am scared of them so they would be a problems for me.

    • Trails BeyondOperatorWritten July 2024

About your question, please be informed that so far in all our tours we have not faced any incident with a stray dog and the times we saw any, they were harmless and very friendly. Generally in recent years there have been established shelters by the municipalities that keep the animals safe.

    • Trails BeyondOperatorWritten July 2024

If you'll be the only person for the 7th of Oct. unfortunately the tour won't take place. We could design a private guided tour for you in Kythnos with a relative increase in price or a self-guided tour with hikes in GPX files and logistics arranged.

The weather on average in April is around 20-24 Celsius during the day, so very pleasant for hiking. You can even enjoy swimming in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean sea if you don't mind the colder spring sea.
