Itinerary

Nizwa to Jebel Akhdar
You'll drive to Nizwa early to catch the souq while it's in full swing between 5:00 am and 10:00 am, where vendors set up stalls selling fresh produce, handicrafts, and local souvenirs. From there, head to Nizwa Fortress, a 17th-century structure that gives you views across the old town and the mountains beyond. After exploring the fortress, make your way to Birkat al Mauz oasis where you can walk through the historic village and see banana and date plantations up close. The drive up the mountain road includes several stops at viewpoints overlooking the valleys before you check in to your hotel for the evening.

Jebel Akhdar
Start your morning at the Sultan's rose gardens where rosa damascene roses grow on terraced plantations, and you'll learn how they process the flowers into traditional rose water. Then you'll take a 1.5-hour walk along the mountain edge that winds through small villages with big views down into the valley and across the garden plantations. Later, walk into one of the wadis to see an old abandoned village before heading back to Muscat for the day.
