Itinerary
- Day 1
Porto
After arriving in Porto, you'll start by taking in the city's historic character as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The Luis I Bridge is right there waiting for you to cross it and soak in the views. From there, head to one of the Port wine cellars where you can learn how this famous wine gets made and try some while you're at it. Later, wander around Ribeira with its narrow cobbled streets and colorful buildings stacked along the Douro River. Make sure to try Francesinha before the day ends, which is this local sandwich that's pretty hard to get anywhere else and definitely worth tracking down.

- Day 2
Porto to Vila do Conde
You'll be cycling 42 km along the northern coast today, heading through golden beaches and countryside with greenery all around. During the ride, you'll pass the Roman Salines of Angeiras where they used to salt fish and make garum back in ancient times. The route takes you through the Litoral Norte Regional Protected Landscape where wetlands and dunes line your path. By the time you reach Vila do Conde, you can check out bobbin lace being made and then try toucinho do céu, which is a local dessert that'll definitely satisfy after that distance on the bike.

Vila do Conde to Baiona
An early pickup gets you heading into Galicia for this 38 km stage. You're cycling along the Atlantic coast with mountain ranges in the distance as you make your way to Baiona, a port town where the seafood is fresh and excellent. Once there, walk through Monterreal Fort and check out the impressive walls that have stood for centuries. Settle into a waterfront café with some tapas, or if you want something fancier, the Parador de Baiona is a medieval fortress hotel right there with luxury rooms overlooking the sea.

Baiona to Pontevedra
This 32 km ride takes you through the Louro River valley where pine forests and Galician hills surround the path. Starting from Redondela heading north, you'll pass through Arcade, which has a reputation as Galicia's oyster capital for good reason. When you arrive in Pontevedra, the farmers' market is the spot to sample local cheeses and get a feel for what the region produces. Your accommodation is the Parador de Pontevedra, a 16th century palace with gardens and a sun terrace. Finish the evening with fresh seafood and a glass of Albariño wine.

- Day 5
Pontevedra to Cambados
You'll cycle 32 km today past the 15-arch Burgo Bridge and through vineyards where Albariño grapes grow. The views are nice here, with green fields dropping down to the blue waters of the Arousa estuary below. Stop and take them in during the ride. The Parador de Cambados is your home for the night, a 17th century manor house that feels peaceful and is surrounded by history and countryside quiet.

Cambados to Carril
Today's 39 km takes you through the Ría de Arousa, one of Galicia's main coastal regions. You'll wind through traditional fishing villages where life moves at a different pace. Try the mollusc of Carril while you're here, a local delicacy that's worth seeking out. If you want something else to do, the Carreirón Natural Park is full of birdlife and worth a walk through, or just head to the soft white sand beaches and relax there instead.

The final 48 km takes you through Padrón and past the Sar River, where local legend says St. James' boat once arrived. When you reach Santiago de Compostela, you'll feel what centuries of pilgrims have felt arriving here. The medieval cathedral is right there and carries so much history and spiritual weight from all those centuries. Spend time inside and really take in the scale and detail of the place.
