- ALouise Johnston· November 7th, 2025Our very informed guides described and showed us the architectural and political contributions of the Hapsburgs and life in Eastern Europe during and after WW2. The damage to glorious architecture of the prewar period has been miraculously restored in the cities and towns we visited. Our guides movingly described the painful years during WW2, and life under communism. Our visits to a former Gestapo headquarters in Budapest and to Auschwicz and Burkinau were sobering. Our evening boat ride on the Danube to see the lavishly lit Budapest from the water was exhilarating. We will definitely book with Collette again. It is impossible to to elaborate on our "favorite memorable experience" as each day was filled with such experiences. The day tours/guides were excellent and our Tour Manager added to them and was terrific with information, humor and history of each region. The locals were wonderful, friendly and welcoming. This means you're an on-the-go traveler who can walk and stand for longer periods of time (2-3 hours). Walking four miles over the course of a day is very doable, as is climbing into and out of various modes of transportation.
