Itinerary
- Day 1
Edinburgh to Islay
You'll leave Edinburgh early heading west and drive through Trossnachs National Park, where the Scottish landscape opens up around you. The route takes you into the Western Highlands toward Oban, a historic port where you can grab lunch and pick up some local whisky if you'd like. From there, you'll pass through Kilmartin Glen to see the ancient standing stones and old ruins scattered across the glen. Later you'll head to the ferry terminal for the roughly 2-hour crossing to Islay, with nice views of Jura along the way. Once you arrive, you'll settle into your accommodation in Bowmore.

- Day 2
Islay Whisky Distilleries
After breakfast at your place, you'll spend the day visiting Islay's distilleries. Bowmore, one of Scotland's oldest, gives you a guided tour and tasting to start. You'll continue to Kilchoman Distillery for another tour, and they'll have lunch with Scottish food ready for you there. From there, you head to Bunnahabhain, the most remote distillery on the island, where the whisky tastes really different because it's unpeated and salty. By evening you're back in Bowmore with free time to relax.

Islay Southern Distilleries and Historic Sites
You'll explore Islay's southern section today, starting at Ardbeg Distillery for a tour and tasting. Next you'll visit either Laphroaig, which has been around for 200 years and the British Royal Family loves it, or Lagavulin if you're on a Monday departure. Along the way, you'll see Kildalton Church and Dunyvaeg Castle, which the Clan MacDonald of Dunnyveg once controlled. You'll finish back in Bowmore for your last night on the island.

Islay to Edinburgh
You'll take the ferry back to the mainland and start driving toward Edinburgh. In the afternoon you'll stop at Inveraray, a small town along Loch Fyne with historic buildings worth seeing, boats in the water, and an old whisky shop if you want to browse. After that, you'll reach Loch Lomond to view Britain's largest body of water by surface area before heading back to Edinburgh where the tour finishes.
