Nuremberg
Your first full day takes you through Nuremberg's cobblestone streets where you'll find hidden boutiques and artisan shops tucked around corners. After exploring the old town, the ship moves through the Main-Danube Canal and you'll experience the Continental Divide crossing via 16 stair-step locks. It's a technical feat that shows how the waterways connect different regions.

Passau
Early morning on New Year's Day you arrive in Passau, where the Inn and Ilz rivers meet the Danube. You have choices here: head to Český Krumlov in the Czech Republic to see its 300-plus historical buildings, tour Sound of Music locations in Salzburg including the Wedding Church, or stay relaxed onboard for a sailing day to Linz.

Dürnstein
After docking in Melk, you'll tour the magnificent Melk Abbey, an active Benedictine monastery that's been home to monks since 1089 and still houses around two dozen practicing monks today. Then you cruise through the scenic Wachau Valley to Dürnstein, a town dominated by hilltop castle ruins where King Richard the Lionheart was once imprisoned in 1192.
