Itinerary
- Day 1
Rome to Pompeii to Salerno
You'll leave Rome early and head down to Pompeii, where you can walk through the preserved ruins on your own schedule and get a real sense of what daily life looked like before Mount Vesuvius erupted. The site is large so bring comfortable shoes and plenty of water. After spending a few hours there, you'll drive to Salerno on the Amalfi Coast for your first night, settling into a coastal town with views across the Tyrrhenian Sea.

- Day 2
Positano - Amalfi - Salerno
This morning you'll take a ferry through the Bay of Naples, stopping at three different towns along the way. First comes Sorrento with its clifftop old town full of narrow streets and local shops, then Positano with its pastel-colored houses stacked down to a small beach, and finally Amalfi itself. You'll have time to try gelato, wander around, grab lunch at a waterfront restaurant, and just soak in each place before heading back to Salerno by evening.

- Day 3
Salerno to Mount Vesuvius to Montecassino to Rome
Early start to hike Mount Vesuvius with sturdy boots on because the terrain can be rocky and loose. You'll make your way up to the crater rim where you can look down into the volcano itself. From there, you'll drive north to Montecassino Abbey, a working monastery sitting high on a mountain with deep connections to World War II history. Walk through the cloisters and learn about the site before making the drive back to Rome, arriving in the early evening.
