Itinerary
- Day 1
Belgrade
Your driver picks you up from the airport for the roughly 30-minute trip to your hotel. Once you've settled in, you'll take a guided introduction to Belgrade, either by car or walking depending on when you arrive. The tour includes Kalemegdan Park and Belgrade Fortress where you can see the Victor monument and get views across to New Belgrade, Zemun, and the Danube River. After that, you'll walk through the Cathedral Church of St. Michael the Archangel and stroll down Knez Mihailova, the main pedestrian street.

Belgrade to Novi Sad to Belgrade
This day takes you north to Novi Sad for a full excursion. You'll wander the old streets and check out Freedom Square, Danube street, and the Cathedral church. From there, head to Petrovaradin Fortress for the views across the region. Later, you're heading into Fruska Gora National Park to see Krusedol monastery and the small town of Sremski Karlovci, where there's a Beekeeping Museum and a winery waiting. You'll taste local wines including Bermet, a dessert wine unique to the area. The drive back to Belgrade takes place in the late afternoon.

Belgrade to Bajina Basta to Tara Region
Drive out to Bajina Basta to see the famous house sitting on a rock in the middle of the Drina River (it was on a National Geographic cover). The river here is fast and cold with that distinctive green color. You'll also come across Vrelo, Serbia's shortest river at just 365 meters long, which drops into an 8-meter waterfall. In the afternoon, there's a hike up to Banjska Rock viewpoint where you can take in the Drina Gorge and the natural landscape around it. You'll be staying overnight in the Tara region.

Tara Region to Mokra Gora to Zlatibor
Head to Mokra Gora for a ride on the Cira tourist museum railway, a narrow-gauge steam train that goes through terrain you can't reach any other way, running on an eight-shaped track from Tara Mountain down to the village of Sargan. After the train ride, you'll visit Drvengrad, a traditional ethno village built by filmmaker Emir Kusturica with log cabins throughout. Grab authentic Serbian food there with views from the hilltop setting. Later, move on to Zlatibor where you'll have free time to relax by the lake and have coffee at one of the restaurants along the water.

Zlatibor
Start at a local green market where you can try village food like fresh vegetables, smoked meat, rakija, honey, and local cheese. Then ride the Gold Gondola, the world's longest panoramic lift, up to Tornik at the highest point of Zlatibor. Check out Gostilje waterfalls and Siopica Cave, which has natural pools for bathing. The open-air museum Sirogojno is next, famous for its wooden cottages. You'll have time for Sumadija tea with mountain herbs and more rakija. By late afternoon, you're driving back to Belgrade.

Belgrade to Danube Iron Gate Region
Morning trip heading to Golubac Fortress at the widest point of the Danube, a restored 15th-century structure and one of Europe's most beautiful fortresses (plan for about 1 hour 30 minutes there). Continue through a national park along the Danube for 35 minutes to Lepenski Vir, one of Europe's most important archaeological sites (spend about an hour). After that, drive through the Derdap Gorge for 30 minutes to Captain Misha's Hill ethno complex where you can rest and take in the panoramic views. The return to Belgrade happens in the late afternoon.

Belgrade
Your final morning starts at the Belgrade Waterfront area. You'll drive down Nemanjina street, which has all the major government buildings, and pass by the Former Army Headquarters Building that was hit during NATO bombing in 1999. Next is the Saint Sava Temple, Europe's second largest Orthodox church, where you can see the crypt and the mosaic-covered dome inside. On the way back toward the city center, you'll pass Slavija Square, St. Marco's Church, the National Assembly of Serbia, and the Old and New Palaces. From there, you're heading to the airport for your departure.
