  1. Day 1

    San José

    Your Costa Rica adventure kicks off in San José with a locally guided tour of Poás Volcano National Park. You'll get to see the summit and take in the volcanic landscape, then head back to explore the capital city on foot. After the walking tour, you'll meet up with your Contiki crew and get settled in.

  2. Day 2

    San José to Puerto Viejo

    Start early and make your way to Puerto Viejo, stopping at Turrialba along the route. You'll check out Guayabo National Monument to see ancient architecture and structures. Once you arrive at this Caribbean coastal town, your Trip Manager gives you an orientation tour so you can start getting the feel for the surf culture and local scene.

    Puerto Viejo

    You've got the full day in Puerto Viejo to explore the area. Head into Cahuita National Park for hiking, where there's a good chance you'll spot sloths hanging around. The beaches here are fantastic too, so you can check out Playa Blanca, Punta Uva, and Manzanillo when you get the chance.

    Another full day in Puerto Viejo with plenty of optional activities to choose from. You can do river kayaking, take a surf lesson, or visit a sloth sanctuary if any of those appeal to you. Alternatively, just wander around on your own or spend the afternoon relaxing on the white sand beaches.

    You'll board a boat and travel through the canals and rivers to reach Tortuguero National Park. Your Trip Manager gives you an orientation tour and points out the best viewpoints and places to eat.

    Spend the day on a boat trip through Tortuguero's winding canals with an expert guide. Keep your eyes open for monkeys, birds, herons, kingfishers, and poison dart frogs. The wildlife viewing is excellent and the park itself is beautiful. You'll have a free evening to explore the area on your own.

    • For any tour departing before February 19th, 2026 a full payment is necessary. For tours departing after February 19th, 2026, a minimum payment of $200 is required to confirm your booking with Contiki. The final payment will be automatically charged to your credit card on the designated due date. The final payment of the remaining balance is required at least 65 days prior to the departure date of your tour. TourRadar never charges you a booking fee and will charge you in the stated currency.
