- Day 1
Kilimanjaro International Airport to Moshi
You'll arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport and head to Mbuganani Hotel in Moshi. The afternoon involves a pre-climb briefing where your guides walk through what's ahead, check your equipment, and confirm all your medical coverage and travel insurance is in order before the trek kicks off.

- Day 2
Materuni Waterfall and Coffee Plantation Tour
Start the morning walking through scenic areas near Materuni Waterfall, where locals share how they grow fruit and live in the village. You'll swim in the natural pool, then move to a coffee plantation to see the entire process from growing through roasting and preparation. The day wraps with a traditional Chagga lunch cooked by villagers before heading back to your hotel.

Machame Gate to First Rainforest Camp
Drive about an hour from Moshi to Machame Gate and handle park formalities. Meet your porters and guides, then begin the trek climbing through dense rainforest. The terrain is less crowded than other routes but expect wet, muddy conditions underfoot.

Rainforest to Shira Plateau
Continue through the forest, then tackle a steep climb up onto the Shira Plateau. On clear days you'll see Kilimanjaro itself and can spot Mount Meru rising above Arusha in the distance. You'll spend the night at Shira Camp One, where the views really start to open up.

Shira Plateau to Barranco Camp
Trek across moorland that changes as you go, passing under the Lava Tower and Western Breach on Kilimanjaro's southwest side. The day follows the 'walk high, sleep low' method to help your body adjust to altitude. You'll overnight at Barranco Camp.

Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Drop down into the Great Barranco ravine, then make a steep climb up the Great Barranco Wall, which is long and tiring but doesn't require technical climbing skills. From there you'll head toward Karanga Valley, passing under the Heim and Kersten glaciers. Stronger trekkers can do an acclimatization trek up to around 4200m in the afternoon and return before camping at Karanga.

Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Cross barren scree slopes with no vegetation, making a tough steep climb that altitude makes harder. You'll reach Barafu Camp at 4640m, eat, then spend the afternoon resting and preparing. Eat dinner early because you'll wake between 11pm and midnight for the summit push.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Around midnight you'll start climbing steeply through scree for 4 to 5 hours. Reach Stella Point at 5739m right at sunrise and see spectacular ice cliffs inside the crater and Mawenzi peak in the distance. After another hour you'll stand at Uhuru Peak at 5895m, the summit. Then it's down to Barafu for breakfast and further down to Mweka Camp to rest.

Mweka Camp to Moshi
Make a gentler descent through rainforest to Mweka Gate, finish park formalities, and receive your summit certificates. Your vehicle will be waiting to take you back to the hotel in Moshi for a hot shower and celebratory cold drinks. You'll rest at the hotel overnight.

Landmarks Mweka Gate - Day 10
Moshi Departure
This is your open day. If you're heading to a safari next, your transfer can take you there. Otherwise you might fly to Zanzibar or back home. Your vehicle will pick you up whenever you're ready for the airport.
