- Day 1
Paro to Thimphu
You'll arrive in Paro and head to Thimphu by road, with Himalayan views showing up throughout the drive. Once you settle in, the day focuses on Paro's religious and cultural sites. You'll check out Dungste Lhakang temple from the 15th century, then move on to Rinpung Dzong fortress monastery. The National Museum of Bhutan comes next, followed by Kichu Lhakhang, which happens to be Bhutan's oldest temple. It's a solid introduction to the country's architectural style and spiritual heritage.

- Day 2
Thimphu
This day keeps you in Thimphu exploring both cultural institutions and nature spots. You'll see the Memorial Chorten monument early on, then visit Zilukha Nunnery and the Takin Sanctuary where you can spot Bhutan's national animal. From there, the itinerary spreads out across several museums and craft centers: the Indigenous Hospital, Textile Museum, Heritage Museum, and the Traditional School of Arts and Crafts. Tashicho Dzong and Zangdopelri temple round things out, and you'll also stop by a traditional paper factory to see how local craftspeople make paper by hand.

Thimphu to Punakha
You're traveling from Thimphu to Punakha today, which means you'll cross Dochula Pass at 3,080 meters where the views of Himalayan peaks open up including Gangkar Puensum at 7,497 meters, Bhutan's highest mountain. Before reaching Punakha, you'll visit several sites including Trashi Chhoe Dzong fortress monastery, the National Library with its collection of ancient Buddhist texts, an Arts and Crafts School where traditional Thangkha paintings happen, plus the Textile and Folk Heritage Museums. The Handicrafts Emporium rounds out your stops before settling into Punakha, Bhutan's former winter capital.

- Day 4
Punakha to Paro
The drive back from Punakha to Paro includes a stop at Simtokha Dzong, Bhutan's oldest fortress built in 1627 and now used as a religious studies school. Once you reach Paro, you'll spend time at Ta Dzong, the National Museum, where art, artifacts, Thangkha paintings, and Bhutanese postage stamps are on display. Later, you'll take a hillside trail down to Rinpung Dzong, a 1646 fortress that houses both the monastic body and district offices, giving you a close look at Bhutanese architecture and how these buildings function.

Paro
After breakfast, you'll hike to Taktsang Monastery, also known as Tiger's Nest, the most famous monastery in Bhutan. According to local legend, Guru Rinpoche arrived here on a tigress. Plan on about 5 hours for the round-trip excursion. In the afternoon, you'll visit Ta Dzong National Museum again and take a stroll down the trail to Rinpung Dzong to explore more of Bhutan's architectural details and artwork in a less rushed way.

Paro Departure
