Itinerary
- Day 1
Arrival in Tromsø
You'll arrive in Tromsø and check into your accommodation. Since it's summer, you'll experience the midnight sun lighting up the sky throughout the night. Wander around the city on your own to get a feel for the place. If you're up for it, the optional cable car ride up Storsteinen gives you sweeping views over the city, fjords, and mountains all around.

Tromsø to Narvik
The drive to Narvik takes you past snow-capped mountain peaks and deep fjords, so keep your eyes open for humpback whales and orcas along the coast. You'll cross into the Arctic Circle to reach this harbor town. The optional cable car up the local mountain offers fantastic views of the Ofotfjord if you want to stretch your legs after driving.

Narvik to Lofoten Islands
You'll arrive in the Lofoten Islands and settle into a traditional stilt house or hotel. Take time to walk around and see the distinctive red fishermen's huts built out over the rocky shore. Later, head to one of the local fish restaurants to try regional dishes like bacalao, a traditional cod preparation that's popular here.

Lofoten Islands
Spend the day exploring Lofoten by foot and car. You'll visit Henningsvær, a fishing village spread across eight islands connected by bridges, where you can stroll between the waterfront houses and stop at cafés for coffee. After that, continue on to Trollfjord, a 2.5-kilometer waterway known for its dramatic scenery and towering cliffs.

Lofoten Islands
Head out to explore Lofoten's beaches. Haukland Beach and Uttakleiv Beach are easy to reach by car, or you can hike to the quieter Kvalvika Beach. The water here is turquoise and surprisingly accessible even this far north. Spend the rest of your time at your own pace, and you'll have daylight stretching late into the evening thanks to the midnight sun.

Lofoten to Harstad
Before leaving Lofoten, stop by Nusfjord if there's anything you missed during your stay. Then drive east toward Harstad, soaking in those final views of the red stilt houses against the dramatic landscape. Once you reach Harstad, check into your hotel and climb up Gangåstoppen for panoramic views of the town and the surrounding terrain.

Harstad to Senja
After grabbing breakfast at a local café, you'll drive to Senja, an island often called 'Norway in miniature.' The route passes deep fjords and snow-covered peaks. Once there, you'll have time to explore this less-developed island at your own pace, discovering rugged mountains, steep cliffs, hidden bays, and quiet valleys.

Ånderdalen National Park
You'll spend the day in Ånderdalen National Park, which sees few visitors and feels largely untouched. Hiking trails take you through varied landscapes where you can find viewpoints and natural features you wouldn't find elsewhere. Look for ancient trees (some are around 500 years old), lakes, and waterfalls, and if you're lucky, you might spot otters, moose, or red foxes. Mountains rise 1,000 meters from the sea here.

Senja to Tromsø
You'll drive back toward Tromsø, taking in the Nordic scenery along the way. Once there, walk through the colorful wooden houses and cobblestone streets, and check out the cozy bars. Take the cable car up Storsteinen one more time for final views of the city, the Tromsø Bridge, and everything around it. End your evening with typical Norwegian food at a local restaurant.

Tromsø
Your last full day in Tromsø gives you time to see anything you haven't checked out yet and try more local food. Consider visiting the northernmost botanical garden, northernmost brewery, or northernmost cathedral. Try regional specialties like grilled stockfish or reindeer fillet at cozy spots around town. Optional activities include walking along Telegrafbukta beach, mountain hikes, or boat tours across the fjord.
