Itinerary
- Day 1
Taipei to Kaohsiung
Start your day boarding the high-speed train from Taipei to Kaohsiung in the morning, which takes about two hours. Once you arrive, head to Fo Guang Shan monastery to see the golden Buddha statue and walk around the grounds. From there, make your way to Pier-2 Art Center to check out the contemporary installations and sculptures. Later, you'll take a ferry to Cijing Island where you can rent a pedicab and ride through the old street area. While you're on the island, see the historic fortress and lighthouse, then head back to the city. Finish up your evening at Liuhe Tourist Night Market sampling street food and picking up dinner from the various stalls.

- Day 2
Kenting National Park
After breakfast, travel south to Kenting, Taiwan's first national park. Start at Maopitou to see the unique cat-shaped rock formation rising from the coast. Next, visit Chuanfan Rock, which looks like a sail, then continue on to Eluanpi Lighthouse, a structure built during the Qing Dynasty that still stands today. Walk through Longpan Park to experience the coral limestone tableland and take in the views over the Pacific Ocean. On your way back to Kaohsiung, stop at the well-preserved Hengchun Ancient City Gate to get a sense of the area's history and walk through the old gate structure.

- Day 3
Tainan to Taipei
Head to Tainan, Taiwan's oldest city, and spend your time exploring the historic sites scattered throughout. Start with Fort Provintia, a Dutch fortress originally built in 1653 that's been reconstructed multiple times and is now recognized as a national historic monument. From there, move on to Fort Zeelandia, which the Dutch East India Company built during their 38-year rule in Taiwan. See the Anping Tree House where banyan trees have grown over and taken over an old warehouse building, creating a unique natural structure. Take time for lunch at a restaurant of your choice, then head back to Taipei by high-speed train in the afternoon or evening to return to your starting point.
