Itinerary

  1. Day 1

    Marrakesh

Start your day at Bahia Palace, where you'll walk through ornate rooms and peaceful courtyards that give you a real sense of Moroccan royal architecture. From there, head to Koutoubia Mosque and its surrounding gardens to see one of Marrakesh's most recognizable landmarks. Spend the afternoon wandering the Medina's narrow streets and checking out the souks, especially the spice markets where vendors pile high mounds of saffron, cumin, and paprika next to traditional craft stalls. As evening comes around, make your way to Jemaa el-Fna Square where street performers, snake charmers, and musicians fill the plaza. Grab some authentic Moroccan street food like grilled meats, tagine, or pastries as the sun goes down and the square really comes alive.

    Included Activities

    • Guided tour of Bahia Palace
    • Visit Koutoubia Mosque and Gardens
    • Guided exploration of Medina alleyways and souks (Souk el Attarin, Souk Smata, Souk des Teinturiers)

  2. Day 2

    Marrakesh to Boumalne Dades

Plan for a six and a half hour drive through Morocco's mountain regions on a private transfer. You'll cross Tizi n'Tichka Pass with views of Mount Toubkal and scattered Berber villages dotting the landscape. Stop at an Argan Oil Cooperative in Taddert where locals explain how they press and produce the oil using traditional methods. Later, you'll reach Ouarzazate, often called Morocco's Hollywood because of its film studios, and can choose to tour a movie studio or visit the cinema museum if you're interested. The route continues through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, passing historic fortified structures, and takes you through rose-growing areas in Kela'a M'gouna where the collectives harvest petals. Your day ends when you arrive in Boumalne Dades as evening settles in.

  3. Day 3

    Boumalne Dades to Merzouga

Start early for a four and a half hour transfer heading into Saharan desert communities. You'll stop in Tinghir to see the oasis river and walk through the historic Jewish quarter that tells the area's multicultural history. Next comes Todra Gorge, where towering canyon walls rise on both sides and you can choose to walk along the river or wade through the water depending on your preference. In Erfoud, locals show you how they extract and craft fossils, and artisans demonstrate their traditional skills. Rissani's livestock market offers a lively look at local commerce and traditional arts. By afternoon you'll reach Erg Chebbi's massive sand dunes, and after a camel ride across the sand, you'll arrive at a Bedouin-style tent camp. Climb one of the dunes to watch the sun drop below the horizon, then spend the evening around a campfire listening to traditional Berber music and sharing meals with your hosts.

Stop in Midelt, known as the 'Apple City,' to grab lunch and rest briefly. After lunch, the route climbs over Col du Zad Pass through cedar forests where you might spot Barbary macaques if you're lucky. As afternoon turns to evening, you'll arrive in Fes and have time to see the Marinid Tombs from above before navigating the charming winding streets of the Medina as dusk approaches.

Really good trip. Just be aware they don’t contact you until the last minute for pick up. There is also a lot of driving involved (the van does have AC though). Our driver Dozi was really nice and helpful and made the trip fun. Saw some awesome sights and the camel ride was amazing. The desert is really HOT at night though so I recommend getting an AC tent or avoid doing it in August.

Our experience with Khalil at Morocco Tour Marrakech was flawless. We started by discussing our travel plans, detailing where we would begin the tour and where it would end. Khalil provided various options based on the number of days we had in the country and helped us decide on a fantastic 10-day itinerary. Initially, we planned to fly in from Spain, but we decided to take a ferry instead. Khalil seamlessly adjusted our plans to accommodate this change. Our tour director, Omar, was exceptionally accommodating and knowledgeable, making our journey thoroughly enjoyable. The local guides—Morad, Mohammed, and karim—were incredibly well-versed in the history and culture of their respective cities, keeping us engaged throughout the city tours. Omar and the local guides made our trip an unforgettable experience. Their pride in their country and dedication to ensuring we had a great time were evident, leaving us with cherished memories of our adventure through Morocco.

Khalil went above and beyond on our trip. Our driver, Ali, was always on time, helpful, and greeted us with water during the hot weather. Both of the tours we took were very informative. My one complaint is that we wish we had been warned about the prices and haggling before being dropped off at the rug store. We happened to be there during a holiday, and our Fes tour guide welcomed us into his home for a meal since everything was closed. Other than that, it was truly an amazing trip. Megan and Winnie at Wunderlust were always helpful, even responding promptly and assisting with reservations for the group.
